HEART WORK

Understanding the Components and Quality of the Christian Heart

Listen To Podcast: Heart Work: Understanding The Component And Quality of The Christian Heart

In this piece, we are going to be examining something that I believe is very fundamental in our Christian walk and in our relationship with God as well. This subject matter is something that you and I must pay attention to, if we are going to ever enjoy our relationship with God. And what are we looking at? We are looking at something that has been titled: Heart Work. We want to look at the subject matter of the heart. And there is a sub-heading that is titled: Understanding the Components and Quality of The Christian Heart. I want us to begin our meditation from the book of 1 Chronicles 28 and we are going to read verse 9. Now this is the word of King David, to his beloved son, Solomon. The Bible says: “As for you, my son, Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind.

So, in that place we saw two things: a loyal heart and a willing mind. It reads further: “For the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intents of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you. But if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever. I believe we got the message of David to Solomon. He said, “The Lord searches all hearts…” At the end of the day, we are going to find out that he was not talking about the biological heart in this place. He was talking about another kind of heart. So, David said to Solomon, “God searches all hearts” God knows the intent of the hearts, He knows the thoughts of the heart of man, and God also understands it. So, if any man does not understand your heart, the Bible says God understands your heart. He knows what is in it.

Now, don't forget in a place in Jeremiah, the Bible says, the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked. It says no man can know the heart of another man but God knows the heart of man. So, in this place, we can see that David was also corroborating that particular statement by Prophet Jeremiah. So, he says, The Lord searches all the hearts and the Lord understands all the intent of the thoughts of the heart.

Now I want us to see another Bible passage, Matthew 12 and we are going to read from verse 33-35. Don’t forget we are looking at Heart Work and so, we are reading these Bible passages as the background scripture upon which our discussion is going to stand on. Matthew 12:33-35 is a familiar Scripture that we know. The Bible says: “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks… Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees and the scribes. He says, how can you being evil, wicked people say anything that is good. It says four out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

So, two things or three things are very important in this particular place that we just read. Number one, Jesus said, if you have a heart that is evil, He says such a heart cannot produce good. Is that not so? Number two, He says from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. So how do you know the thoughts and the intent of a man's heart? How do you know it? It says by what they speak by what they utter. He says because from the abundance of that man's heart, whatever he says, comes from. So, Jesus was telling them that an evil man cannot produce a good fruit and evil man cannot speak good. Because whatever he or she says, is from what is within. So, how do you know a good man with a good heart? Or how do you know a wicked man with a wicked mind or heart? It is simply by what they say.

Now let's look at the third one, Mark 7:21-23. I just want to establish a few things and then we're going to move forward. Jesus is still the one speaking in this place. Jesus said:

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”

Did we see that? He says out of the heart of man. So, any action of man that you see on the outside Jesus said proceeds from within. If you see a man who has just committed murder, the man must have thought about it. Nobody wakes up and say, “Well, I'm going to commit murder isn't that so? So, there must have been a plan, there must have been a strategy by which the person who carried out the act must have planned.

You know, several years ago, when Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden attacked the World Trade Centre in the United States of America. You know, after the deed was done, the investigation revealed that those who carried out the act had been in the United States of America, living among them, attended the aviation school, learning all that they will require to carry out the attack about three or four years before the attack. So, what the world saw was that a man attacked the World Trade Centre but the act or the action proceeded from the heart. It required a careful thought and strategy for it to have been possible. So, Jesus listed all manner of things in that place. He says, if you see pride, if you see foolishness, if you see deceit, if you see covetousness, if you see wickedness, if you see adultery, evil thoughts or fornication, it says, all these actions proceed or is a product of the heart of man.

No action takes place unprepared. There is nothing that you do that is not planned, that you don't first and foremost, give a thought to. If you're a foolish person, you must have thought to be foolish, because it takes one to think foolishness to actually act foolishly, isn’t that so? If you want to be wise, you must have thought of yourself being wise, because it takes some careful thoughts for people to say, “wow, this person is a wise person.” Why do people say somebody is wise, and somebody is foolish, is not because of what they do? So, Jesus said, all the things that were mentioned in that particular Mark chapter seven, he says they are products of the heart. So, when you see a foolish man, he is just displaying what is in his heart, or when you see a wicked man, he is just displaying what is in his heart.

Now, let's go further. What does the heart, because we've been looking at the subject matter of the heart now. And I believe that many of us we are familiar with the word heart. But scripturally, what does the word ‘heart’ mean because the heart inn the Bible context is not the same thing as the heart that we know in science or biology. Biological heart, the one that you have, we were told is responsible for blood circulation in the body. But many times, in the Bible, while I was studying, some references said, the word ‘heart’ in the Bible was mentioned close to 1000 times. So, when the Bible uses the word ‘heart’, what exactly does it mean? Because we have known and we have established that is not the same heart as your biological heart. So, when you see the word heart in the Bible, what does it mean?

Now, let me give us three meanings of the word ‘heart’. The heart according to the Scripture is a spiritual organ that drives the behaviour of man. Just as you have your heart as a physical organ, the scriptural context of the word heart is a spiritual organ. And it is that spiritual organ that drives the behaviour of man. The biblical heart is a spiritual organ, it is not a physical thing and it is where the behaviour you know, just like we read in that Mark seven, it says whatever you see the man do, must have preceded from their heart. Is that not what it says? So, when we're looking at the biblical heart, it is a spiritual organ that drives the behaviour of man. So, it is not talking about the one that pumps blood. So, the biblical heart is a spiritual organ and it is what drives your behaviour. It is what drives what you do.

Another meaning is that the spiritual heart is like a control centre where all of our decisions are made. The spiritual context of the word heart can be likened to a control centre, where all of our decisions are taken, or are made. That is another meaning of the scripturally usage of the word heart. Now let me show us the third one, even as we proceed, the spiritual heart or the biblical heart is the house where our emotion and desire dwells. Those are the three meanings of the biblical context of the word heart that I want to show us. So, if you have desire for something, it is from your heart. Do we understand that? It is where our emotion or all manner of things that we do, it is where they come from. So, our biblical context of the word heart is a house so to say, where our emotion and desire dwells.

The Components of the Christian Heart

Now let's go to the components of the biblical heart. What are the things that makes up the heart, according to the Bible. When we are talking about components, we are looking at the things that something is made up of. So, let's look at the composition of the biblical heart. Now let's open our Bibles to Proverbs 3:5-6. This scripture is going to help us with these components, I want to show us something in that place. The Bible says:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths
.

So, the Bible says “trust in the Lord with all your heart”, that phrase presupposes, in a logical sense, that maybe you have more than one heart. Is that not what it means? If the Bible says “trust in the Lord with all your heart”, it could presuppose that you have more than one. But the truth of the matter is, you do not have two hearts, you have one heart. The Bible context of the word heart is not talking about two or three kinds of hearts, it is simply talking about one heart that is a spiritual organ but it has many components. So, when the Bible says “trust in the Lord with all your hearts”, what it is simply saying is that “trust in the Lord with all the components of your heart.” Do you understand what I'm saying now?

Trust in the Lord with everything that that your heart is made up of and it is those components that I quickly want to reveal to us now, so that we can understand that when the Bible is talking about our heart, it is talking about everything that makes that heart. Now please don't forget, when I mentioned the word heart, we're not talking about your organ that pumps blood. That one, if they carry out a surgical operation, they can bring it out. The heart we are talking about in this piece, and in this context is a spiritual organ, called the heart, it is not a physical one.

So, when the Scripture says “trust in the Lord with all your heart”, what it is simply telling you is that trust in the Lord with all the components of that spiritual organ called heart. Now, what are the components of the heart? What are the components of your spiritual heart? Maybe I should be breaking it down like that so that we can understand. What are the components of your spiritual heart? Number one, the very first component of your spiritual heart is your mind. Number two, the second component of your spiritual heart is your will. Number three, the third component of your spiritual heart is your emotion. Number four, the fourth component of your spiritual heart is your conscience. So, when the Bible says “trust in the Lord with all your heart”, it is simply saying trust in the Lord, with your mind, with your will, with your emotion, and with your conscience.

Now, if you look at the mind, the will and your emotion, it is simply talking about your personality. Those are the things that made up your soul. I believe we understand that right. Now, does it mean that the heart can be equated to the soul? No, the heart and the soul are not the same thing. Your soul is your personality, your soul is actually who you are. But what makes up that spiritual heart is also the component of your soul. Do you understand what I'm saying now. And the fourth one is your conscience. Now, let's look at the Scripture so that we are not confused. We are going to look at a scriptural reference for each of those components and I will leave you to see it by yourself.

Now let's look at the first one. Matthew 9:4. The Bible says: “Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, why do you think evil in your heart?” Do we understand that? Jesus, the Bible first and foremost said, he knows their thoughts. Now where do you think from? Your mind! Your mind is responsible for the thoughts that you think about. But Jesus did not stop there. Jesus said, knowing their thoughts, said to them “Why do you think evil in your mind?” So, what does that presupposes? It simply means that your mind is a subset of or a component of your heart. Do you understand that now? Because Jesus could have said “why do you think evil thoughts in your heart?” You understand? And he could have said “knowing the thoughts of their mind.” But Jesus used the two words in the same verse. So, you think with your mind, but that mind also It is a component of that your spiritual heart. Do we get that now?

So, let's look at the second one. That was about the mind as a component of the heart. Now open to Acts 11: 23 and I want us to put the puzzle together once you understand the Bible passage. Look at what the Bible says. When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord. Please, purpose is a product of what again? The Will! When you purpose something in your heart, it is your will that is simply coming into play, which is also your soul. Do you understand what I'm saying? Your will is part of your soul and it's also a component of your heart. So, it says they purposed in their heart, that talks about the will.

Now let us look at the third one. Let me show us John 16:22. We are looking at the components of the spiritual heart and I want to show us those four things before we proceed into examining the quality. In John 16:22, this is Jesus still speaking in this place. The Bible says: Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you. Where does sorrow come from? Emotion! Sorrow is an expression of emotion, you are simply giving, you know expression to what is taking place in you. But Jesus uses the same word with the heart. Jesus did not say and you emotion will rejoice. So, Jesus said, your heart, which is that spiritual organ, will rejoice. But sorrow is a product of emotion. So that shows you that your emotion is also a component of that spiritual heart.

Let's look at the fourth one, and then we'll proceed. Hebrews 10:22. Now there are a lot of other scriptures that that we can cite to corroborate each of those components, but we don't have time. So, I will just leave us to study and then see some of these other scriptures. The Bible says: let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Did we see that? So, this one shows us that conscience is also a component of the heart. So, if you go back to Proverbs chapter three, from verse five to six, where it says “and you shall love the Lord with all your heart”, it is simply saying that if you have truly given your heart to God as you proclaim, all these four components must align; your mind, your will, your emotion, and your conscience must all agree that truly, you have given your heart to God.

Not that God is working on your will but your mind is disagreeing. You know sometimes, we could get to that phase of life where you want to take certain decisions but your mind is not in agreement with it, have you been there? That means there is a war in you. You know, sometimes when the Bible says there is a war going on in you, have you read that scripture before? That there is a war going within, it's usually a war between those components. Your mind says go this way. Your emotion says no, this is the way. Your will says go forward. But your mind says there is no way there. When people say “they are in a fix”, have you heard people say they are in a fix before? That's what is happening. There is a conflict of interest in those components of the heart. So, when the Bible says you must love the Lord with all your heart, and you do not lean on your own understanding, it is simply talking about the fact that you've gotten to a point where your mind your will, your emotion, and your conscience are being totally surrendered to God.

You've gotten to a point where God can say, “this is what you should do” and then your mind is not kicking against it. Where God can tell you, this is the direction to follow, and your emotions are not coming in the way. That is what it means. So, love the Lord with all your heart. It doesn't mean that you have a constellation of hearts, different kinds of heart and then you begin to love the Lord, you pick this one you love. No! It is simply talking about you loving the Lord with all the components that makes up that heart.

The Quality of the Christian Heart

Now let's look at the quality of the Christian heart. What exactly should be the quality of your heart? Now don't forget, we are looking at Heart Work: Understanding the components and quality of the Christian heart. Now we have just examined the components. Now let's look at the quality. What exactly should be the quality of a Christian heart? What are the things that must be found in a believer’s heart, in a Christian heart? I want to mention four things to us and then we are going to examine the Scripture.

The first quality of the Christian heart is PURITY. Our heart must be pure before God. Every component of that spiritual heart must be pure before God. No man can see God or ascend to where God is without a pure heart. Your mind must be pure. Your will must be pure. Your emotions must be pure. Your conscience must be pure before God. Purity is the first quality of a Christian heart. If your heart is not pure, you cannot assess God. If your heart is not right with God, it will be difficult for you to be able to assess Him. Now let's look at Psalm 24:3-4. Our hearts must always remain pure before God as believers. Look at what David said. The Bible says:

Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.

Who can ascend into the hills of the LORD? Who can stand in His holy place? David said by revelation, number one, he who has a clean hand. Now, cleanliness in that context is not talking about you washing your hands and doing ablution before you approach God. No, that's not cleanliness of the hands. That's religion. And that's what some people do. Cleanliness of the hands, if you like, carry 50 litres of water and wash your hand. No, that's not what it means. Or having a pure heart. If you like drink, Aquafina or Eva, it does not make your heart pure. What constitutes a pure heart is first and foremost, a pure motive. What is your motive for doing what you're doing? What is the reason behind it? God judges the motives. Your action may be good. But if the motive is wrong, the action is wrong before God.

You see, relating with God is not difficult, but it's somewhat a bit difficult. Everything must be right for you to be able to assess Him. Paul said in Acts 24:16, Paul said “herein do I exercise myself to have a conscience that is void of offence towards God and towards man. Because if your conscience knocks you down before God, it simply means you can't assess him. All these things must be right. Your will must be right. Why do you take decisions that you take? Why do you purpose what you purpose in your life? If God can see that the motive is right, then it simply means that God is in it. But if the motive is wrong, God is not in it. So, David said: anyone who has clean hands and a pure heart and who has not lifted up his soul to and idol nor sworn deceitfully, he says these are the people who can ascend into the hills of the Lord.

Purity is the first quality of a Christian heart. Your heart must be pure. I know it's something that is a bit difficult in the flesh because we think a lot. Everything about your mind, about your will and emotion and conscience must be purified. 2 Timothy 2:22, see what Paul wrote to Timothy. He said to him: Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. This is another place talking about the pure heart. Paul said to Timothy, join yourself with people that call on the name of the Lord out of a pure heart, it is important. Your gathering, your association is important. So, in other words, if your heart is not pure, or if there is impurity in your heart, it may be very difficult for you to be able to assess God or difficult for you to be able to assess His presence. So never forget, purity is the first quality of a Christian heart.

Quality number two: LOVE. Another quality of a Christian heart is love. How do you know that you love God? How do you know that you truly, truly love God? You don't love God with brain or we don't love God with our brain. We love God with our heart. You see love is an expression of the heart. Love is not an expression of the brain. Love is not an expression of your physical senses. If you are to subject love to your brain or your physical senses, you will not love at all. So, when you're talking about true love and quality love, it is simply an expression of your heart. Love emanates from the heart. Love is not an expression of the brain but that of the heart. How do I know that I love you? Because my heart knows it. David said something. He says we are fearfully and wonderfully made and my heart rightfully knows it.

Whatever your heart does not know, has not come to your knowledge at all. How do you know that you love, it must be from your heart. You don't subject love to physical things or else, you will not love at all. If you are to subject love to what happens in your brain or in your senses, you will not love your enemies. But what does the Bible say? It says, “Love your enemies” isn't that what the Bible says? How easy is it for me to love my enemy? How easy is it for you to love your enemy? But God says “Love your enemies, He says pray for them”, is that not what He says? How do you know you can do this? It must be from your heart. Because if you don't do it, if it does not come from your heart, it will not be acceptable. So, love is an expression of the heart.

As a believer, your heart must love always. The Bible says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” God did not give Jesus when the world was saved, or they were right with him. No. God expressed is love to humanity even in their wickedness, in their sinful states; God showed love. That is a kind of love that comes from the heart, a kind of love that gives and does not look back. Reckless love, is an expression of the heart. Look at Deuteronomy 6:5; let me show us this scripture, it is going to help us. It says: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Now what is it talking about? I think I've explained to us! It is talking about loving the Lord your God with all the components of your heart. You must love the Lord your God with your mind, with your will, with your emotion, and with your conscience. Do you understand what I'm saying? He's not saying you are saying well, “you know, I love you, you know, I love you.” And yet your conscience is convicting you that deep down inside of you, you don't really love the person. That's deception. He says “Love the Lord your God with all your heart.” So, when you say you love someone, your mind must love the person, your will must love the person, your emotions must love the person, your conscience must love the person. That's what it means.

Until God can see all those four parameters in play that all those parameters are towards Him, that is when God can certify you that you truly love Him. But if those four components do not align, you have no yet love God. So, Moses said to them, he wrote to the children of Israel, he says “You shall love the Lord your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength”, he even strength to it. Everything about you that is a result of your makeup must be poured on God in terms of love. Because it is from the abundance of the same love that God has loved us. Look at Deuteronomy chapter 13:1-3. The Bible says:

“If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, 2 and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’—which you have not known—‘and let us serve them,’ 3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Do we understand that place or should we read it in the Amplified Version? He says, don’t be deceived because deception begins from the heart. Once the devil can get your heart to be deceived, you are deceived. So, Moses was saying that if any of those appearances of deception comes from whosoever that says he's a prophet or is a dreamer, and you fall for the gimmick of the person, he says, you do not truly love the Lord your God. Do you understand? When your heart is truly in tandem with God, in terms of love, every other subject or every other thing are secondary. Your heart is primary. He says God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord, whether you truly claim you, you know, to love Him. And truly, you know, your mind is telling you, your will is telling you that you don't truly love Him. That will amount to just lip servicing God. Did we get that?

Let's look at the third one, the third quality of the Christian heart. BROKENNESS. Now, the Christian heart must be the one that is broken before God, your heart must be broken before God. You see, one of the things you must realize is that God cannot use you efficiently and effectively if your heart is not broken, if your heart is hardened. God will not be able to use you the way and manner he will use you. So, if you are trusting God to use you for his assignment and for His purpose on the face of the earth, one of the things that you must always strive for is that your heart must be broken. Your heart must long after God and must be broken before God when it finds it. Now look at Psalm 34:18, David said: “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart.” Now please, let's get it. A broken heart in this context, is not until something bad happens to you. You know, when something bad happens to people, it breaks their heart, right? That's not the context.

A broken heart in this context is talking about a heart that is simple and contrite before God. Do we understand? A heart that is teachable, a heart that is penetrable?!You know, there are some hearts that are hard like stone. And such was the kind of heart that the children of Israel had and God was finding it very difficult to relate with them. And in Jeremiah, the Bible says God said He was going to replace their stoning heart with a heart of flesh. A stony heart is not broken, the word of God cannot penetrate a stony heart. So, when your heart is broken before God in context is simply saying, your heart trembles for God. Your heart trembles for everything that has to do with God. Your heart is not hardened, God is speaking to you and then your heart is not deflecting it. That's a broken heart. God speaks to you and then you receive it the way it is. That is a heart that is broken. Even though sometime it does not make sense, God has spoken.

So, when you have a difficult or a hardened heart, David is simply saying that God is not near to you. Is that not the opposite of that statement? He says “the Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and save such as have a contrite spirit.” The Bible says somewhere in Isaiah, it says, “a broken heart and a contrite spirit the Lord will not despise.” The Lord does not despise anyone who has broken heart. So, one of the qualities of the Christian heart is brokenness, you must be broken before God. Even if you are the most powerful man in the world, when you come before God, you must be broken. You can't say you are a Christian, you are a believer, and God is finding it very hard to penetrate your heart, to penetrate your will, to penetrate your emotions.

Your heart is not broken yet. So, brokenness is a quality of the Christian heart. Psalm 51:17. David said: “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and a contrite heart, this you will not despise.” God will not despise a broken heart. As long as your heart is broken before Him, David said, “God is near to you”, you will hear Him. Many times, believers complain that they don't hear God, they don't even know when the Holy Spirit speaks to them. It is because your heart is not broken. Did we see that? So, brokenness is a quality of the Christian heart.

Let's look at the last one, even as we begin to close. The fourth one is SERVICE. A Christian heart that is not given to service is not a heart that has encountered God. One of the things that your heart longs for, if you have truly encountered God is how to serve Him. Now, service is not limited to the things you know, you do in the house of God alone. When you look at service in the context of the Scripture, it is holistic, whether the service you do in the house of God, or the service, you render to people in the will of God. If you read Acts 13:36, the Bible says For David, after he had served is own generation by the will of God.” Now if you are serving people, it is of utmost importance, that you serve people in the will of God. If you're serving somebody, and it is not in the will of God, that service is only an act charity.

Service is not limited to the house of God alone. But the kind of service that you render to people must be according to God's will. That is when it we command a reward. So, the Christian heart is a heart of service. Joshua 22:5, Joshua said to the children of Israel, he says: But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” So, the kind of service that is acceptable before God is the one that is done with all your heart, and with all your heart, and all your soul. So, the quality of a Christian heart is displayed in the act of service.

As a child of God, what are you doing for God? What Can God say you are doing for him? Is not all the time that you say “God do this and this and this for us.” What exactly are you contributing to the kingdom of God? That is service. How are you are expanding the frontiers of the kingdom of God? If you are yet to get to that point, it means your heart is yet to get to where it's supposed to be with God. Service is a quality of the Christian heart.

Now, haven shown you all that, let's conclude. You see, one of the things that God is doing in this end time is working on our hearts. When you look at the world today, one of the things you will see is the fact that the heart of many, is not yet receptive to God. So, one of the things that God has said he will do is that in the end time, the hearts of men will be receptive. So, God is working on our hearts. Whether you will allow God to finish the work or not, is left to you. But know that God is always working on your heart, God is working on my heart. And to what end is God working on our heart? It is so that that heart can be receptive, so that that heart can do the will of God. Now look at Hebrews 8:10-12. Look at what God says He is going to do in this time that we live in. It says: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts…”

So, when He put it in your mind, what do you do about it? You simply think about it. Joshua 1:8 says: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” This is exactly what God is doing in our time. It says: “I will put my law in their minds, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

How do we get to that point, when God says, He will be merciful to your unrighteousness and your sins and iniquities, He will remember no more? Because He would have put His law in your mind, that would have become the subject of your meditation, that would have become the subject of your thinking. When the Word of God can penetrate your mind, then it can penetrate every other part of you. When the Word of God can assess your mind, that same word can assess your will. It can assess your emotion; it can assess your conscience. The basis of your emotion, the basis of your decision can be as a result of the Word of God that has been written in your mind and your heart. I pray that the Lord is going to help us even as he works on our hearts, in the mighty name of Jesus.

Amen!

Word of Confession: (Optional)

Lord Jesus, I confess to you that I have sinned against the LORD God - in the rebellion of my heart, I have disappointed your expectations on my life. I have fallen from Your grace and followed wrong influences around me. Today, I retrace my steps back to you - and I ask that in your mercy you accept me as your son and give to me (again) the promise of the Father - the Holy Spirit. Lord Jesus, please, come and make my heart your home, and from there rule in the affairs of all men. In Jesus Name I have prayed.

WE often ENCOUNTER STORMS in our lives where we feel GOD can’t or won’t WORK. When we truly UNDERSTAND who God is, however, we will REALIZE that HE CONTROLS both the storms of NATURE and the storms of the TROUBLED HEART.
