Examining the relationship of a husband and wife as it relates to the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer and in the life of Jesus when He was here on earth is so key to the understanding of our roles as a woman who is a help-meet to the husband, if she wants to be effective and comfortable in it. We would realize that this relationship is so closely related as the Holy spirit also has a ministry of help to us and since He is God and does His ministry so beautifully, it is simply wisdom to learn of and from Him.
Let’s look at the relationship of Jesus and the Holy Spirit for example, we would see that they are one just as the husband and the wife are one in Holy matrimony. He is the perfect example of Oneness to us. In Mark 10:8, the Bible says: “and the two shall become one flesh’; so, then they are no longer two, but one flesh.” You will realize here that looking at this relationship as it relates to marriage, the Holy Spirit is not less God as Jesus is not less God, but He understands His place. Just as you are not less of a human as your husband is not and you are not less of a god as your husband, based on Scriptures. Psalm 82:6 says: “I said, “You are [a]gods, and all of you are children of the Most High.”
As a matter of truth, the trinity sets this example in a more contextual way for us. The three (The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit) are one. Irrespective of their roles and responsibilities, they are one! Just as it is for us, the three-fold cord that cannot be broken i.e. the Father God, the Husband and the Wife. Ecclesiastes 14:12 says: “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” These three should be one as well. Here, in relations with the Trinity; I will like to relate the Father as God still, the Husband as Son and the Wife as the Holy Spirit.
Pause a bit, and think of this analogy, thinking of the roles of these personalities and how it doesn’t conflict in anyway with everyone rising and being glorified in their own state. No one is complaining about being the other, or desiring to take up another’s role. Also, no one is arguing about why he should be the helper and not the Son who came to die for the sin of the world. They all understand their role and they are comfortable in it. In this same way, you have to be comfortable in your role as a woman who is the help suited for her husband.
Just as a Scripture also says that there is neither Jew nor Greek, the same God is rich unto all that call on his name. You are not less important to God than your husband is to Him, you are not less precious either. I believe you know that the Holy Spirit does not think He is less than Jesus. He doesn’t compete His place with that of the Lord Jesus, remember how He also came into the life of Jesus like a woman comes into the life of a man in John when the Holy Spirit came upon Him like a dove and then, Jesus started His ministry; He came to empower Him to begin what has been written concerning Him. This is how it should be for you as a woman, when you get into the life of that man, things should begin to take shape. You come into his life and begin to empower Him to do all that has been written concerning him while fulfilling your own purpose here on earth as well.
You don’t have to compete with him and start telling everyone how it was when he married you that things began to take shape for him, a person of understanding should know that your presence in the life of your husband; as a godly influence, makes for great impact. The word acknowledges this when it says that; as a woman, you are a good thing that happens to your husband. Proverbs 31 also says a virtuous woman does her husband only good and not evil all the days of her life. You are meant to do him only good all the days of your life.
So, quit comparing yourself with your husband, stop competing with him. Rather, see your role in his life just like that of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit does all the work in the life of a believer remember and not everyone even mentions it. It’s an underground work! Can I mention here also that, just as the Holy Spirit is not always on taking glory for His activities in the life of Jesus and the believers, don’t try to force glory on yourself. Just do what you are required to do in good fate. The Lord is your rewarder. Many of us are just so interested in being seeing and acknowledged, but when you are diligent in what you do, you will be exalted. Your impact in your husband’s life shouldn’t be that to show off for. God gave you the job description remember, He employed you and He will pay you handsomely. He sees all things and He is a rewarder!
Call to Action: Think about the analogy of the Trinity as it relates to your marital relationship. Be more conscious and deliberate to be a help suited, comfortable with the role given by the Father.
