In the book of Genesis chapter one (1) verse one (1), we see how God began all things both visible and invisible. And in the book of Colossians chapter 1 verse 16, we understand that everything conceivable (by man) or inconceivable, visible or invisible, thrones, dominions, powers and even principalities were created by God and they all exist for God. And that states very broadly that God is the exclusive Designer, Maker, Fabricator, Originator and Leader of all things and all men - hence, everything or everyone can only survive or exist because of Him. Furthermore, since everything (whether it is the seat of government, G8, G20, UN Security Council, Commonwealth, OPEC, NATO, etc.) exists because of Him; then, there must be a GAP inside everything and inside everyone that only God can fill.
Let us digress a little, phones such as Blackberry, iPhone, Samsung, Nokia among others are made by various manufacturers at the highest technical conditions, and they appear almost invisible and elegant in style. But really, these powerful phones were designed to LIVE BY the sim cards of various network providers; hence, their manufacturers created spaces within them that only sim cards can fill. And no matter how a buyer of such phones desires to put a memory card inside a sim card slot; it will never work not until the right device (sim) is plugged into the originally intended and fabricated slot.
May I state very boldly here that the reason why our lives are not really working as we expected is not always because of our enemies; but sometimes because of our negligence: For we usually seek for any immediate (but usually harmful objects like ambitions, career, friends, businesses, marriage and even ministry) to fill the space that ONLY God can fill in our lives. Although, while the fault is often with most of us, the truth also is the failure of many chosen men to mirror God effectives before other men.
The eternal truth is this, God is Spirit, and those who worship (live by and for) Him must worship (live by and for Him) in spirit and truth. (John 4:24). Truly, there is a space inside every man and woman that only god can fill; but Sir/Ma, our God is not a jewelry, neither is He a certificate, nor is He a cloth. Hence, do not make any mistake of filling your life with objects that fades with time while searching for God. Rather, understand the spirituality of the designed space in your life for God your Maker (Fabricator) and LORD.
However, if God is Spirit, and man can only see, handle and relate with physical and visible things and beings; then, how can one find the invisible God, let alone, relating with Him? But before we address that question, let us be very careful not to follow the errors of generations: For men in their search for God, have located objects, woods, stones, animals, iron, etc., and have turned them to God, but really, those are gods - the works of their hands. Sir/Ma, do not allow your own search for God turn your sensitive heart unto vanity, but unto the truth.
And so, how can I find God? And how can I relate with Him?
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself*purged our*sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
Hebrews 1:1-4
Did you understand what you just read from the Bible now? God is Spirit, but found a way of speaking and relating with the men of past generations through the prophets. But who were these prophets? They were the men and women that separated themselves unto God in their generation to know God (and known by God) and to represent Him before His people on the earth. Thus, the prophets were not ghosts, but men and women that accepted God's open hands for a walk and work together. No wonder, Elijah the Tishbite (God's prophet) was always speaking thus: Thus says the LORD, before Whom I stand, and that explains the lives of men and women that mirrored God before their generationsthey were men and women that stood continually and excitedly before God!
What then is a mirror? According to the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, a mirror is a piece of special flat glass that reflects images, so that you can see yourself when you look into it. Hence, God who is invisible, made Himself visible to men of the past generations through His prophets. At the time, He made one prophet to marry harlot, at the other time, He made some to go naked in streets, at other times, He made His chose mirrors to obtain necessary postures for their good representations of God's will, image and likeness among men.
However, due to the inadequacies of the prophetic representations of God before men, God appointed His Son to reflect His image perfectly before His people. The question is, how did His Son reflect God perfectly before men?
"If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him."
Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us."
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
John 14:7-11
Really, every man or woman yearns for the true God; but their yearnings have only pushed them out for a search of God. But while few are found by God, multitudes have erred and found strange and fallen creatures of God and have turned them to their God. In the case of Philip in the Scriptures above, he wanted to know God and see Him; however, he was ignorant of God's movements or visitations among men. Hitherto, people have sought for the knowledge of God in countless things, beings and men; but in this dispensation, God had sent His Son Jesus Christ, as His express (perfect and exact) image of His person. Thus, no more ignorance of God and His will among men.
According to the dictionary meaning of a mirror, we understand that mirrors are basically specially fabricated objects that reflects the images of people; hence, mirroring God before men is basically, reflecting the exact and perfect image of the invisible God in the visible world (or business, government, media, education, culture and arts, economy, sports and entertainments, etc.). And from the words of Jesus Christ, He was God's mirror on the earth; thus, no man can claim ignorance of God around or before Jesus Christ.
Therefore, He went everywhere, doing good, performing miracles, healing, teaching authoritatively (not like the scribes), delivering the oppressed and possessed, feeding the poor and raising an army of His saints; for God was with Him. (Acts 10:38). According to the book of Acts 10:38, the secret of Jesus as the perfect image of the invisible God on the earth was clearly written for us all:
- God anointed Him with the Holy Ghost and with power;
- God was with Him.
God needed to become one with Jesus in the Spirit for Him to become ABLE mirror of God on the earth. Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me?.. (John 14:11). ONENESSwith the Father in Spirit was the first major factor for the effectiveness of Jesus as God's mirror on the earth. Remember, there were representatives of God before men before Jesus came into the scene physically on the earth; but most of them only had God's presence with them, but not in them; hence, their reflection of God's images was limited (not exact).
So, having discovered the perfect image of God on the earth Jesus the Christ; let us now know the will of God for you and I, as it concerns reflecting Him in the visible world:
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preachunless they are sent? As it is written:
"How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,*
Who bring glad tidings of good things!"*
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?"* So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:14-17
The entire world could be wailing in anguish, oppression and corruption; but they would still not call God for help or salvation, until they have believed Him. And truly, people only believe what people see or hear; and since God is Spirit, some visible men must take up the responsibility of speaking forth His word before the oppressed, hopeless, helpless and purposeless people of the world. However, no one can boldly represent the awesome and almighty God without being sent by Him. What a situation!
Honestly, you might join me in this though, Why on earth are men not sent out by God for these noble works? The answer is not farfetched!
And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. Then He appointed twelve,*that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and*to cast out demons:
Mark 3:13-16
If all that is required to reflect the image of the invisible God among men is mere sending; then, the prevailing ignorance about God (His will, nature, power, wisdom, etc.), which is everywhere today, would not be. But, to be sent, one thing is required, which is, being with Him. Really, we know that no man has ever seen God; but men have seen Jesus, and His life and ministry is fully captured in the four gospels. And we understand that as fantastic as the past representatives of God were, they were not perfect like Jesus. Hence, becoming like Jesus was equal to becoming like God. That is, since Jesus was and is the express image of the invisible God of heaven and earth; then, conforming to the image of Jesus is like being the exact image of God. However, to become like Jesus, you need to spend quality time with Him; you need to ask Him questions; and really, you need to love Him enough to walk with Him daily.
And so, Jesus called some willing men unto Himself, primarily to be with Him learn from Him, laugh with Him, eat with Him, pray with Him, travel with Him, etc.; and secondarily to send them out. Thus, no man qualifies for sending, if he or she have not stayed with Jesus.
Friend, you and I need to stay with Jesus in the place of the word and prayer long enough to reflect His image; and remember, it took Moses 40 days and forty (40) nights of consistent daily encounter with God for Him to have a shinning face.
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:12
So Friend, your desire for God is okay, but take that desire forward with a commitment to reflect Him among men. Remember, until God's countenance shines upon you in the place of fellowship in the word and spirit; your face can not shine among men. And until your face shines among men, people will not know that you belong to the shinning God the One who dwells in unapproachable light, my LORD, God and King full of grace and truth.
Finally, stop blaming your brothers and sisters for their chronic ignorance of God and themselves; but begin today to SHOW them how God looks and talks. Become a blessing to your generation become a mirror of the LORD on the earth. Be blessed continually in Christ Jesus forever. Amen.
