1 Corinthians 15:57. “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”
John Holmes once said; “There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.”
I have been privileged to see athletes who run marathon race or cross country stop by to collect water either to drink or to pour on their head. Sometimes they collect an energy drink sips from it and continues to run. And then I asked why does an athlete who has practiced or trained for a long-time sip water as he/she runs in a competitive race? The answer that came to my mind was that such an athlete is watching against dehydration, depletion or physical exertion or exhaustion. And so, the more he or she does that, the more the strength to finish well will be available. Just as the water, the glucose or an energy drink could serve as a source of strength or refill to the athlete, so also, we require help as we journey through life, in marriages, at work or in various situations or environments of life we find ourselves.
The place of help in life can never be over emphasized. If you will ever be victorious in life, in marriage; advancing without stopping, rising up after falling or failing; you must acknowledge the place of help and helpers in your life. There is always a glorious destiny prepared by God for every man to walk, run or journey into, but for that destiny to become a reality there are certain things you must know, become aware or conscious of. And my responsibility is to point it out to you in this article.
There are two key words I would like you to take into cognizance as you proceed in the course of this read; the first is taken from Genesis 2 verse 19, it says; “Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them.” I would like you to note that word “and brought them to Adam.” Again, in Genesis 2 verse 22 the Bible says; “Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.” I would also like you to note that word “and He brought her to the man.” So, the word “brought”; ‘God brought to the man’ was used twice in that chapter, the first was the animals He had formed out of the ground, the second was the woman He had made out of the rib of the man. While the first has to do with work, the second has to do with help and that’s where my emphasis be.
In Genesis 2 verse 7, the Bible says God formed the man out of the dust of the ground and breathed into His nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. That was the first help man received. How did I know that? John 14:26 says; “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” What is the significance of this verse? Jesus was simply saying the Holy Spirit is a helper and He will help the man to remember. This talks about engaging the mind of the man. Genesis 2 verse 7 says “became a living soul.” So, the soul is a component of the mind which is responsible for thoughts, knowledge and remembrance. Having become a living soul, a garden was planted and a work was given to him to do in that garden. And his primary responsibility was to discern by the Spirit in order to be effective at his work. That was why the Spirit came through the breath to impact the man. Bible says; there is a Spirit that is man and the breath of the almighty gives him understanding. So, the man was inspired, the Spirit inspired the names he called the animals. He could trap the thoughts of God and literally speak the mind of God concerning any situation. That was the first test. Bible says God waited to see what Adam would call the living creatures.
Again, God put the man to sleep and took a rib out of him and closed the place. And then made a woman. Having made a woman, He brought her to the man. And because there is a Spirit that powers him from the inside, he quickly recognized her. While the first test has to do with work and competence via inspiration and for the man to respond to his abilities; operating and functioning as a god on the earth, the second test which is the ultimate; has to do with sight which leads recognition and acknowledgement of a helper. Now, man was created to fulfil a Purpose on the earth, and that Purpose is called work. But if the man will accomplish or finish the work, there was a need for a helper. But the man will not be able to find a help suited for him if he does not carry the breath of the Almighty which is the Spirit of God. What the Spirit did was to firstly inspire the man and to help him recognize and align to his destiny helpers. That is the sequence.
So, the secret to fulfilling destiny lies in the recognition of your helper and understanding the dynamics of the help you need. It is not enough to be competent at what you do, it is not enough to be anointed, if you cannot recognize help, fulfilment of destiny will not be a reality. See what Adam said the moment she was brought and he recognized her. He said; “this is now the bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh.” The law of attraction didn’t take effect because she was beautiful to behold, it was because she was recognized. When Adam saw her, he didn’t say Oh see how beautiful she is; he simply said this is now the bone of my bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. He first understood the work and the understanding of the work is what leads to the recognition. So, until you are able to recognize your helper you will find it difficult to fit him/her into the ultimate plan of God or describe her according to Gods Purpose .
And this background leads us to the basic Scripture for this article; Genesis 2 verse 18, it says; “And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”
When God began the work of creation up until the seventh day, the Bible says God saw all that He had created were good. But when you get to this point I.e., Genesis 2 verse 18, you will find God making a statement saying ‘it is not good for the man to be alone.’ Describing the situation of the man. The direct implication of this is that God does not see it as a good thing for a man to be alone. That was a problem but God quickly proffered a solution to that problem. He said; “I will make Him a helper. You may want to see this in the context of marriage, but it is way beyond it. Note the word God used in the Scripture and the response of Adam to what God had created for him. God said “I will make him a helper comparable to him.” When Adam saw her, He said “this is the bone of my bone.” Meaning that God actually created her not to Adams specifications and desire according to the flesh but for the specifications of the work or Purpose He has given to the man.
What does this mean? She was created to fit and complement the man’s Purpose thereby fulfilling the necessary conditions for the accomplishment of the work. So, a man who is alone is a man who is without a helper. A helper who would assist him or her into the future and hope God had already prepared in Purpose . But what happens to a man who a helper is made and brought to, but finds it difficult to recognize her, embrace her or acknowledge her? Such a man will also find it difficult to fulfil destiny. You may be wondering what a helper is, why is it so important and what role does he or she play in the fulfilment of your destiny?
Who is a helper? A helper is said to be a team mate, a work mate, or an assistant. This means that if you recognize or acknowledge a helper, you have recognized a team mate, an assistant or a work mate. So, the kind of helper God designed or Purpose d to give to the man was a woman. And a helper could come in any form and in whatever gender or any class of persons in the society. So, when God planted the garden and instructed the man to tend and to keep it, He was simply saying the man ought not to do it alone but to co-labor with his partner or assistant.
When God had the intention of creating the man, when God had the intention of giving a man a Purpose or a work, there was a room or provision for a helper. The reason is because one may be able to chase a thousand but two will definitely put ten thousand to flight. This is the reason why Ecclesiastics 4 verse 10b says woe to him who is alone. So, a man who is not alone is a man who has a helper and what does a helper do? To make it easier or possible for the man to do something by offering one's services or resources.
Ecclesiastics 4:9-10 further buttresses this point. It says; “Two are better than one because they have a more satisfying return for their labor.” Did you see that? Could this be the reason why God said it is not good for the man to be alone? Because when one labors, there is not a satisfying return for his labor but the same is not applied for one who has a helper. So, stop complaining as to why your labor is not bringing a satisfying return, you simply need a helper.
Verse 10 says; “For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and does not have another to lift him up.” [Amp]
I find the statement in this verse of Scripture very instructive; it says woe to him who is alone. God said it is not good for the man to be alone. So, while there is a hope for one who has a helper to be lifted up, there may not be a hope for one who has no helper. So, God foresaw that as the man is busy laboring in the vine yard He had planted, if the man falls in the course of his labor without a helper he will not be lifted. And that is not the intention of God. This means that no man should be an island and every man must learn to build relationships. So, the essence of them complimenting each other is so that the other may be ready for the other to give a helping hand. God said; it is not good for the man to be alone; I will make Him a helper.
Adam having recognized the woman, He said she shall be the bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. I would like you to see it from this angle. If there is a limitation to what the strength in my bone and flesh can do, the helper comes to add her own strength and the difficult task becomes easy even though she is a weaker vessel, never underestimate her capacity. What do you recognize about the people that God has brought into your life? Have you asked yourself, why has God brought this person into my life? Because, if you fail to recognize your helper it will be difficult to walk into the full experience or realization of your destiny. A lot of times we are surrounded with people who have been strategically positioned by God to be our helper but if we fail to recognize them or fight and repel them, walking into that glorious destiny will be impossible. God said call unto me and I will answer and I will show you great and mighty things you do not know. So, the helper that would help you fulfil Purpose is among the great and mighty things you need to be shown. And until you see you won’t be able to recognize. And until you recognize, you won’t be able to align.
There are four kinds of help needed by every man or woman that wish to fulfil destiny or desires to be victorious. You require;
- The help of God via His Spirit.
- The help of a spouse.
- The Help of men.
- And the help of angels.
But what does it take to access genuine help which is the help either from God, from spouse, from men or from angels? This is the most important part of this article; 1 John 5 verse 4 says; For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. The world is full of obstacles and challenges, you require help to navigate through it. This Scripture spelt it out to us; it says whatsoever is born of God will receive the help required to fulfil destiny. It takes a man who is born of God to overcome the world. Bible says greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. You must be sensitive and discerning, led by the Spirit of God, leaning not on your own understanding and putting absolute trust in God in order to access the sufficient help you require to be consistent, effective and victorious in marriage, Purpose and career.
John 16:33 says; These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” So, we may be in the world but our help is not from the systems of this world. Jesus said I have overcome the world; so, it takes an overcomer to help one to become an overcomer. It takes one who has been helped and comforted by God to help and comfort others.
David said I looked up to the hills, from whence cometh my help? He said my help comes from the Lord. So, God is the source of all help. Until you are helped by God you cannot be helped by men neither can you help yourself. Even Jesus said I can of Myself do nothing. So, stop going about jumping from one relationship to another, doing trial and errors, struggling to get it right; God said: Do not fear, O worm of Jacob, O few men of Israel. I will help you,” declares the LORD. “Your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel. Believe this word and you will match triumphantly in your destiny thanking God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”
