Ephesians 1:17-21. “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of Wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” This is Apostle Paul praying here for the Ephesian church, that God will give them the Spirit of Wisdom not just Wisdom but also the Spirit of revelation. The reason why he prayed this prayer was spelt out in the next verse; it says; “¹⁸ I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.” One of the things this Spirit is coming to do or activate in their lives and in their walk with God is that it will open the eyes of their heart. The reason is because Apostle Paul noted concerning a people 2 Corinthians 3 verse 14 that their minds were made dull, saying; the same veil that remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.

So, one of the things the Spirit of Wisdom and revelation comes to do is to make the eyes of their understanding to become enlightened and then it has the capacity to bring them into the following experiences. Number one; they come into the full knowledge of the hope hidden in the call for which they were called, number two; they become partakers of the riches of His glorious inheritance and His incomparably great power to those who believe. Then He said that power is the same as the mighty strength²⁰ he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,²¹ far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. This is the dimension of experience Apostle Paul desired the Ephesian church to walk in, and that is true dominion but this experience will be alien if the Spirit of Wisdom and revelation is lacking.

Hence, James 1:17 says; “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.” (NLT) I would like you to note certain words in this verse; it says “God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.” Then it says every good and perfect gift comes from above, John 3 verse 16 makes us to understand that gift; it says “For God so loved the word that He gave His only begotten Son.” And 1 Corinthians 1 verse 24 makes us to understand that the Son who is the gift of God to mankind is the Wisdom and the power of God.  How did I know that? Jesus said in John chapter 8 verse 12, “‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  So, Christ was given by God as a light to illuminate the world. Accepting Him means that you also begins to walk in the light. So, the secret to taping into that dimension of Christ called Wisdom is to follow Him. He said whoever follows me will never walk in foolishness, will never walk in darkness, will never act hastily. So, Wisdom is associated with light and light is an essential ingredient for sight.

So, a man who can see is a man that is wise and powerful, he is a man that will not stumble in darkness, he is a man walking in dominion. But how is sight gained? It is by being full of the knowledge of the will of God and the will of God is embedded in the word of God. But this possibility is activated by the Spirit of Wisdom and revelation. So, Wisdom is a function of how much you are willing and able to align to the will of God or the word of God per time.

The primary focus of this article is to solve the problem of Spiritual blindness. And the solution to this problem is light. Another word I would like to use synonymously with spiritual blindness is darkness. But my responsibility is to explain how light or Wisdom can become a possibility in any life. In the book of James chapter 1 verse 5, Bible says; “If any of you lacks Wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” This is an important subject matter because, this is what makes for our dominion on the earth and also in ministry. This writing is born out of the desire to keep alignment with God, knowing that exploit in ministry is ultimately dependent on it, but you can’t align if you can’t see what to align to. The Bible refers God to be the Father of Spirits, if He is Spirit, what then is required of every man to be able, see, hear, feel and to discern His will, thoughts, intentions and instructions? Jesus said we must worship Him in Spirit and in truth, because outside of this, God might seem far away even though He is near.

We all desire to have dominion, we all desire to walk in the experience of our God ordained destinies, but we don’t consider the fact that spiritual sight or Wisdom play an important role as to how to journey into the path of fulfilling our destinies. This is an important subject matter because it is only when you are sensitive that you become conscious of the will of God and also align to the will of God. But this is not possible until you interact with the spirit of Wisdom, the spirit of light.

Jesus explained a possibility to us in Mark 4 verse 11 to 12 saying; “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables ¹²so that, they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding.” So, the Spirit of Wisdom is the spirit of revelation, the spirit of light opening up mysteries and secrets hidden even from the ages for our glory. I like you to note something from this Scripture; it says “to those outside the kingdom, everything is in parables.” Those outside are in darkness, the reason is because; according to 2 Corinthians 4 verse 4, “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” And the most important questions are; Have you seen the light of the gospel? Have you received Jesus? Who are you beholding? Are you in the kingdom? Do you know the secrets of the kingdom? How much fellowship do you have with the Holy Spirit? Until these questions are well reflected upon and answered, sight and dominion will be difficult. Isaiah in His prophecy concerning Jesus said He will not judge according to the hearing of His ears and the seeing of His eyes, He will judge according to the leading of the Spirit. Solomon demonstrated such a dimension as he led Israel especially in the case of the two women and their child. No wonder the blind Bartimaeus cried out for help in Mark 10:46-49.

It says; “A blind beggar by the name of Bartimaeus son of Timaeus was sitting beside the road. ⁴⁷ When he heard that it was Jesus from Nazareth, he shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” ⁴⁸ Many people told the man to stop, but he shouted even louder, “Son of David, have pity on me!” ⁴⁹ Jesus stopped and said, “Call him over!” The miracle of sight or light begins to find expression from the place of desperation and a determination to see Jesus. This may sound a little bit controversial but it’s the truth. If it is the Wisdom that comes from God, the Father of light then you must focus on Jesus and behold Him as He is. This Scripture said he shouted even louder not for the people around to hear him but that Jesus would hear and see him because, his sight is dependent on Jesus hearing his cry and inviting him over by the provisions of mercy. The Bible said it is the glory of God to conceal a matter, it is the glory of kings to search it out. Meaning that your dominion and glory on the earth is to search and see the things that have concealed by God. And this same God said call unto me and I will answer you and I will show you great and mighty things which you do not know. Can you cry loud like this blind Bartimaeus in order that you may see great and mighty things that you are ignorant of?

When a man or a woman has problem with sight, the person goes to visit or consult an optician, and the optician will diagnose the problem and prescribe an appropriate lens to correct the sight. The sight could either be blurry or sharp.  And these two factors depend on the ability of an individual to focus his or her lens on an object. So, the better the focus, the clearer the sight. So, in order to gain or regain sight, there is the need to become hungry and desperate. And it does not stop there, there must also be the willingness to follow through with actions such as; prayers, study of the word, fasting, righteous living, being filled and led by the Holy Ghost; thereby causing you to be full of grace and truth walking in the Spirit not ignorant of the knowledge of His will. Having laid a background into what the Holy Spirit has inspired me to write, I would like you to read this piece with an open mind I believe the Holy Spirit will ignite a certain fire in your heart.

 

Genesis chapter 1 from verse 1 to 3. The Bible says; “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ² The earth was without form, and void; and darkness ^[a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. ³ Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. ⁴ And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. ⁵ God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. ^[b]So the evening and the morning were the first day.” I would like you to notice a statement in verse 3, it says; “Then God said let there be light and there was light.” I would also like you to take note of that word “then God said” keeping it at the back of your mind as you proceed in the course of this read. Because, it will be relevant for our discuss. God spoke a word; and it was for an intention, and that intention was to create visibility.

 Seeing how God began creation in verse 1, the Bible says; He created the heavens and the earth. But what did He create the heaven and the earth with? What was the primary material used for the creation of the heavens and the earth?  They were created by His word. This was the first time God began to speak.  In John chapter 1 verse 1 the Bible says; “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² The same was in the beginning with God. ³ All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.” Do you see why we saw from the beginning that He is the Wisdom and the power of God?

God having created the heaven and the earth by His word, the next thing He created was capacity to see which we could call sight. And it was recorded in verse 3 of Genesis chapter 1. So, sight is not possible in the absence of light and light is a function of the word. So, God said let there be light and there was light. This is a quick reminder that you don’t see with your eyes you first all see through the word. The Bible refers to the word as the true light that gives light to everyone coming into the world. This same light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

So, what is light? Light can be described as an agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible. And what is that agent? The word of God! David said your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. So, the first thing God began His creation with on the earth was the word which eventually translates into light. And we could call that light Wisdom. How did I know this? As I write this article the Holy Spirit began to explain to me; He said there are two branches of Wisdom or light. The first creates; meaning that it forms and brings into existence what is not; that is the creative power or dimension of the word. That was what we saw in Genesis chapter 1 verse 1. The second branch of Wisdom directs; so, in cases where there is a need to appropriate things or fix them where they ought to be, in cases of confusion, uncertainty, indecision or hesitation the second aspect of light or Wisdom is deployed. That was the meaning of what we saw in Genesis 1 and verse 3. So, while the first word or light shaped and formed the heaven and the earth, the second branch reveals. It gives visibility and direction.   

So, we could say that visibility was one of the first thing God established on the earth because, the previous verse says; and darkness was hovering over the surface of the deep. This is the reason why the quality of the life you live is a function of the light you have received. For God to improve the quality of what should be experienced on the earth, He therefore introduced light. When visibility is possible certain things are put into account or consideration; the first is recognition and appreciation of truth. What is the truth about the earth? It was formless, it was void and it was dark. Having had this light experience, two things happens; you immediately come into the consciousness of what is relevant or not and you can give vivid description of placements and values.  

So, whenever sight is possible, things are first acknowledged, recognized and appreciated, and then you are able to describe vividly what is being seen. In terms of relevance, you know the role things or people will play, in description you understand identity. This is the dynamics of sight. So, going back to the text we just read in Genesis 1 verse 1 to 3. It says; “then God said; let there be light.” Before this statement came forth or proceeded out of the mouth of God, there was something the Holy Spirit showed me in the previous verse. It says; The earth was without form, and void; and darkness ^[a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. This verse began to describe the situation of the earth, it says it was without form, it was void and it was dark. Then it says; “and the Spirit of the Lord was hovering over the surface of the waters.”

Taking a closer look at this statement, two things stood out in this verse; number one; darkness was on the face of the deep. Number two the Spirit of the Lord was hovering over the surface of the waters. So, while darkness was on the face of the deep, the Spirit of the Lord was on the face of the waters. So, in order to uncover the darkness that covers the face of the deep, there must be an activity of the hovering of the Spirit over the surface of the waters. And what is the water? The word. No wonder when Jesus was immersed into the water by John the Baptist, the Spirit hovered and there was a revelation of the Sonship of Jesus. Which brought clarity to His identity. God did not immediately begin to speak. Saying let there be light, there was a word available. See what it says; the spirit hovers over the surface of the waters. What does water here signify? It signifies the word. So light outside the word is not light, light is the function of the interaction between the Spirit and the word. Light produces life.

Apostle John said the Word of Life appeared right before our eyes; we saw it happen! And now we’re telling you in most sober prose that what we witnessed was, incredibly, this: The infinite Life of God himself took shape before us. That was why Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life, in another place He said I am the light of the world. Meaning that I am the one that has the capacity to create visibility, recognition or sight. Apostle John in 1 John 1 verse 5 said; This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. In another place the Scripture said in Him was life and that life became the light of men. So, light and life cannot be separated. They are both eternal and has its source from God. That was why Jesus said man can only live by what proceeds out of the mouth of God. This is where light translates into life. So, what are the factors responsible for gaining of sight?

#. Thirst and hunger for the word: David said; I rejoice in your word like one who finds great spoil. There is a posture and a consciousness He has when he spoke this words. What is that posture? He said; As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. In Genesis chapter 1 verse 6 and 7. It says; “Then God said, Let there be a ^[c]firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” I would like you to note that. Verse 7, “ Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament.” There was a water under the firmament that can be accessed by men, but there is the water from above which can only be given by Christ, no wonder He said let Him that thirst come to the waters. Which is the word because it has the capacity to satisfy according to Isaiah 55 verse 1 and 2.

Jesus was speaking to the woman by the well; He said “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” Remember the Scripture that says every good and perfect gift comes from above? God will not give you or show anything outside of His word. And your hunger is what is required. So, the water that was divided from the waters in Genesis 1 verse 6 shows that there is something called the living water, not dead waters or stinky waters, this is the water that satisfies and until a man begins to thirst for this kind of water which is the word of God, it will be difficult for him or her to become sensitive in the Spirit and to have dominion.

In John 7 verse 37 the Bible says; On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.” The access every man desire is first of all to drink deep from the waters of the word. This water that has the capacity to wash a man is the same water that has the capacity to satisfy a man. And who ever drinks from it, the Bible says out his belly shall flow rivers of living waters.

#. Faith: In 1 John 5 verse 7, Bible says; For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Son, and the Spirit: and these three are One. And there are three that bear witness on the earth, the spirit, the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. So, while the water signifies the word, the Spirit and the water intermingles by the speaking of the Father, then light appears.

This is where faith comes in. If you read Hebrews 11 vs 1. Bible says; Now faith is the ^[a]substance of things hoped for, the ^[b]evidence of things not seen. Verse 3 then says; By faith we understand that the ^[c]worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. Now this is the true definition of light. What is unseen is made to be seen by faith. The Spirit of Wisdom and revelation does not function outside of faith. When God said let there be light He wasn’t in doubt, it was like prophecy, He spoke it into existence.

Romans 10 verse 8 says; “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” same word was repeated in Deuteronomy 30 verse 14. Rememeber that the spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters but until God spoke; there was no light, until it was spoken light didn’t come forth. So, light is produced by the Speaking of faith. The word may be near you, if it is not engaged, light will not come forth. Bible says; And the Spirit of the Lord hovered over the surface of the waters. Just as Jesus could be near you, but if you don’t engage Him you can’t have a ‘Jesus’ experience. This is the reason why Jesus stood upon the same water that Peter was sinking. Jesus stood because there is an understanding He has; Peter sank because He lacked that same understanding. What makes the difference is that one stood upon the word which is the rock while the other is actually standing outside the word.

See what the Bible says in Psalms 24 verse 1, The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters. The worlds was founded upon the seas, but it was established upon the waters. In other words, it was established on the word. Bible says “Then God said, Let there be a ^[c]firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Bible says God divided the waters from the waters. So, there is the seas, and it says the earth is founded upon the seas, but its establishment is on the waters which is the word.

What have I been saying in essence? Hunger and thirst for the word! And the combination of the word and the Spirit is what produces the light for our sight. This is the reason why the Scripture says we live by faith and not by sight. In other words, sight is not obtained by the physical eyes, it is powered by faith. By faith the blind Bartimaeus shouted out. David said your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. So, complete obedience to the word and the Spirit is what creates light for men to walk. And these does not happen outside of faith. 

Why is faith so important, how does it create light and how does it make room for dominion in the kingdom? Bible says in Hebrews 11 verse 1, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It says the evidence of things not seen. From what perspective is the writer of Hebrews coming from? Things not seen here talks about the things that have become tangible. So, for you to see what is tangible, you must first behold the things that are intangible and it is faith that makes for that possibility. Verse 2 says; For by it the elders obtained a good report. Remember what the Bible says in Genesis chapter 1, having created light; it says and God saw that it was good.

Anything of good report is produced by faith. Anything that cannot be seen is something that is not seen by faith. Verse 3 says; Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Amazing! It says the things that are seen were not made of the things which do appear. Meaning that the things which are seen are made from the things which are not seen. The norm is that you make things from the materials that are seen, but spiritually the law is different. You make things from the things which are unseen. And only the word has the capacity to create that possibility. Bible says all things were made by Him and without him nothing was made that was made.

2 Corinthians 4 verse 18 says; “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” What a statement! Your focus can actually be on what is unseen? I thought what is invisible is already invisible, it cannot be seen? How comes faith creates this possibility? This means that what cannot be seen can actually be seen. So, while the word may not be tangible, it can be seen by faith; it is the Holy Spirit that makes the life and light for the believer to see. The letter kills but the Spirit gives life.  

That is why Bible says looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith. Remember I talked about focus and I said the sharper your focus the clearer your sight. So, if you can focus on Jesus how clear your sight would be. And the clearer your sight the brighter your light. If your eyes are good your whole body will be full of light. Until light is accessed, dominion is not possible in the kingdom. The hunger for the word, faith, accepting and beholding Christ is what you need to deploy the Spirit of Wisdom and revelation.
