In the same way, King David was anointed, King Saul was also anointed. Apart from asking for the anointing never fail to ask for the right heart for the anointing, less you will just be like a man that is in honour but does not understand, the Bible says, "He is like the beasts that perish."
King David and King Saul were anointed by the same God through the same vessel (man) for the same assignment. So, it was not about one person being more anointed than the other. The difference between the two kings was just a matter of the right heart, the degree of an individual’s love for God. They were both anointed to shepherd the people of God and fight the battles of the Lord God.
David only showed up that day at the battlefront for the first time all his life, he had never fought a public battle before, but because the matter of divine service is the question of the heart, not the title, not a matter of years of experience, not a question of who is the most popular.
Do you have the right heart, do you have the heart for God, what is the degree of your love for Christ Jesus and the world that is wallowing in thick darkness and gross wickedness?
David fought the battle that day not because he had a dream and the Lord told him to be ready for the battle at hand, no, there was nothing like that. But because of his right heart for the Lord and the anointing upon his life, he was not careful to seek the approval of man, for the anointing was the only approval he needed to lay down his life for his God. It was so amazing that no man gave David a pass, a thumb up to go and do the battle. He went on his assurance of the anointing of the Lord upon him, that was all the approval be needed and he had it.
Do you have the right heart, Sir?
Do you have the right heart, Ma?
It is all about having the right heart. As it was true for King Saul, true for King David, true for Jesus, true for John Wesley, true for Bishop Benson, true for John the Baptist, true for John the beloved, etc., so it is true for me, and it is also true for you. But do you have the right heart?
See what the Bible says:
"But the anointing [Holy Spirit] which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teaches you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him." (I John 2:27, NKJV)
They were anointed, we are also anointed even more anointed than they were. The dimension of anointing that is at work in us is much more than the anointing that was on King David, but if the heart for God is not sufficient in us; if our love for Jesus is choked up, overwhelmed, by other things; fears, unbelief, doubts, and the likes, we will just be as weak as every other person that was on the battleground that day who heard everything that Goliath said, the champion of the Philistine’s army said, yet did nothing until the man David came around.
This is exactly true for the situation we find ourselves in the world today, yet carrying the anointing but not willing to arise to silence the devil, wickedness and evil of our days. Everyone is afraid, we don't want to die should our children and loved ones are rendered orphans, fatherless, and motherless. But it is funny, the same death we are running from, will embrace us one day and we could no longer run away.
Do you have a heart for God, the right heart? Do you love the love of the Lord Jesus Christ, what about the world that is passing away yet the people in it are blind towards the anger of God against unrighteousness?
“Jesus said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
"If anyone loves the world the love of the Father is not in him." Put in other words, "If anyone loves the world, he or she has no heart for God."
What makes men not have the right heart is not because they were not born with heart, of course, we were all born with heart, but when our hearts have taken to the love for the world, love to save our head from death, love for our natural life and possessions, it shrinks or murdered our love for the One who died for us that we may obtain mercy.
Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon" (Matt. 6:24).
Of course, no one, can’t love the world and also love Jesus Christ. You can’t be occupied with the world and be engaged with Christ.
Like the people of Israel at the battle, the other day with their King, Saul, everyone's heart went for their possessions at home, how their wives and children were waiting for them to return, and they were like saying, "I didn't come to this battle to come and kill myself; wisdom is profitable to direct, let me not go and die if I die who would pay the bills for my family"?
But when the man with the right heart came, he was not careful, he was striving to obtain a good testimony by trusting his life to the one who has enlisted him as a soldier and vessel for the situation at hand. The Bible said they were not careful, not even as much as to save their heads from death.
See what the Bible says in Revelation concerning those men of Faith who obtain imperishable testimony by faith that was exercised in their hearts towards God: "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (See Rev. 12:11.)
Stop placing values on your dying body, it will pass away whether we want to believe the truth or not. Jesus said, what is it going to profit you to save this dying body (something that must return to the grave), and lose your soul, your eternal life, eternal inheritance? Stop loving the world, as it is true that our bodies, flesh, earthy homes, will pass away, that is how the world itself too will pass away, Apostle Peter said, "It is already marked for demolition", so why put your trust in it? No matter how much wealth you can gather in a lifetime on the earth for the pleasure of your flesh, when it is your turn to go, and you are gone, the most share your flesh would get from all you have got is 2.5 feet wide by 8 feet long. And it is the highest you could get from all you have, or from your family possessions should you have no personal land. Every other thing, you could probably be buried with is just sand that would convert back to sand.
Love not the world. Return your affections to your Lord, the King of kings, the One who is the King that has made you king upon the earth. Only Jesus is worthy of your love, not the world. Don't let the world and things in it steal your love away. Give it all to the Lord Jesus Christ because he gave you His love too without reduction.
You have a mandate to save the world. Examine your heart today, the problem is not that Christians lack the anointing but the right heart.
