"For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me"
(John 6:38)
There is a reason why Jesus Christ became the first born among many brethren, why the Father judges no one, but has assigned all judgment to the Son, and has put all things in subjection under his feet. The Bible says "forever oh Lord, thy word is settled in heaven." It is settled because the word, which is Christ, is seated and settled at the right hand of the Father.
Apostle Paul made it clear to us that, prior to the time He assumed this glorious status, because of the joy that was set before Him, He endured the cross, despising the shame and now sits at the right hand of the throne of God. He is settled in heaven on the throne because God exalted Him and gave Him a name that is above every other name. What did He do to be exalted in such a manner? He saw a glory, a joy that was set ahead, but there was a price to pay to get settled at the right side of God. Do you want to discover the secret to sitting at the right hand of the Father? Then journey with me as we make this discovery together.
Let me begin today's discussion with an analogy in the circular world. When there is a struggle or crisis of whom to assume leadership in place of the father, it is the child who is in the father’s will that gets the legitimate access into the father’s inheritances. Hand writings, pronouncements, and promises become null and void, rights become powerless, even the traditional law becomes useless when the will of the father is presented by the lawyer. It means the will of the father supersedes every other circumstance or written document. The child who is in the will of the father does not struggle or fight for a share in the father’s wealth and empire. If the will of the father has given it to him then it truly belongs to him.
"A man can receive nothing unless it be given to him from heaven" (John 3:27). Anything that is not in the will cannot be given to you. If you are not in the will, you cannot have it. Outside the will is outside of inheritance, glory and elevation, no matter how much you desire it. So a father who puts a child on his will waits for the child to grow up into maturity. "A son, an heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all" (Galatians 4:1). So the will prepares you for enthronement, it knocks off every obstacle, mannerisms and vices, dethrones you of every self, anger and pride that will not make you last on that throne. So you are being pruned and shaped into the required character, and knowledge suitable for you, in order to be seated comfortably by the right side of the father.
Just as it is in the circular world, the same principle applies to God. As a matter of fact, it is stricter and cannot be bent, influenced, manipulated or even reconsidered. Jesus Christ did the will of the Father to the point that God testified of Him by saying "this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." Jesus said at a point that "I and my Father are one." The Father testified of the Son and the Son testified of the Father. In other words, what you see me do, that is what my Father would have done exactly. If any child can do the will of the father, then that child can please the father. If you can please the father, you have become one with the father. Can a child or son who has a different will from the father ever please the father?
The Bible says in Ephesians 6:1, "Honour your father and mother that it may go well with you." So following the will of the Father is not just a sign of obedience but honour and reverence. Jesus was exalted and seated in that position and location because He discovered the will of the Father and went all out for it. The Bible says; "being in the form of God, He did not consider it robbery to be equal with God but he made Himself of no reputation taking the form of a bond servant and coming in the likeness of men and being found in the appearance as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death even the death of the cross."
In choosing the will, sacrifice is required, prompt obedience is required. It may even cost you your blood or even your life. The Bible described the condition of Jesus when He accepted that will in the garden of Gethsemane, His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. If a vow or covenant is required, you must meet it. This is how kings are enthroned in the kingdom, this is how sons are settled and seated at the right hand of the Father. No wonder the devil tempted Him with the glory and the riches of this world. He overcame because His eyes were fixed and glued to the will of the father; knowing very well that a man's life does not consist in the abundance of the things He possesses. That was why He was tempted in every way yet without sin because His mind and work was to finish the work which we may also call the will.
So the work of the Father is the will of the Father, though He was God He humbled Himself. The will can humble you to the point that you had never imagine. Imagine Jesus Christ the only begotten of the Father standing before an earthly king to be humiliated in such a manner, the Bible said, He was silent! He was despised, smitten, oppressed and afflicted yet He opened not His mouth. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter. The Bible said, He learnt obedience by the things He suffered because of one singular thing. He allowed the will of the Father to prevail. How much of the will of the Father prevails over your life? Probably that is the reason why you have not yet experienced the fullness of life, yes! It is that sensitive.
Let me quickly read a Scripture to us from the book of Revelations 3:7-8. It says; "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, 'These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”: 8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name." There is a phrase there that I want us to note. It says: I know your works and because I know your works, He says, "see" I have set before you an open door. Jesus is saying, I have provided a way out through that door but you must be able to see.
A lot of doors are open but there is one you must see. Jesus gave Peter a huge catch yet He said follow Me. Peter saw and followed the door of followership rather than the door of breakthrough. Are you insensitive to a door set before you now? See again! Remember when we began, we said there was a joy that was set before Him, there is a destiny the faithful one has been preordained for but he must see the door. You must be able to distinguish between doors. There is a door that gives immediate blessings but there is a door that leads to enthronement. That door that leads to enthronement is the will of God.
You are faithful but you must walk through that door called "My will." There are so many doors that God may open, we may have so many options. They are all doors but which one is the will of God? If God will open a door before you, it means it is a door into endless possibilities, into greatness, into fulfillment of purpose, into influence and authority. Nevertheless this door was opened unto a people who even though they seem weak or looked like people with little strength, they never denied His name and they have kept the word. How did they keep to the word? It was through their works through faith. Jesus speaking in Matthew 7:24, He said "those who hear these words of mine and do them, will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock." Now He said a door has been opened which they are to access by His will through faith. If you will ever be elevated or rise, you must be one with my will. That door is my will, go through it believing in Me.
For so many people who have been faithful, it is not that God has not opened a door or made a way out but they rather choose their own door, their own will to their own detriment or destruction. Yet they call it faith, there is a thin line between faith and foolishness. God disguises greatness in little things that we can easily despise. Do not apply faith at the wrong door. The right door is opened for you to walk through with only one requirement which is, just believe in God. Hebrews 10:7 says "Lo, I come in the volume of the book it is written of me, to do thy will, O God." The Will of God is characterized by obedience. You can't say "I'm doing the will of God" when you are completely doing something else or walking through a door that was not opened by God.
Jesus said "whoever has seen me has seen the Father." It was not because the Father was looking like Him in skin color or physical appearance. It was representation of works. The Bible says, He is the express image of the invisible God, resemblance by will, and will is tied to purpose, and purpose is tied to work. Jesus said to His curious disciples who were wondering how a hungry man became suddenly satisfied after having a conversation with the Samaritan woman. He said "My meat is to do the will of My father and to finish the work."
Do we see work coming here again? What work have you been given by the Father? ‘Meat’ here refers to food, so purpose has the capacity to satisfy. Satisfaction here talks about fulfillment. So if you see a satisfied man, such a man is in purpose doing the will of God. For such a person, a door is open unto him. Jesus said ‘oh I wish this cup can pass over me, nevertheless not my will but yours be done’. He was broken, He died to self- pleasure and ambitions, giving way for the Father to have the final say over his life and destiny.
Never think that the will is easy to do. It means you will have to deny yourself, you will have no integrity or reputation to protect, and you are willing and ready to despise the shame, and endure the cross. When Mary said ‘let it be done unto me according to thy word,’ it was easy. She didn't know that shame would follow, pain will follow and stress will follow. Until a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it abides alone, it remains by itself, it cannot rise to yield. Die into His will.
So when you condemn yourself to die into God’s will, you will automatically be alive unto God, and be of benefit to the world and to God. Your dying is not the end of the road; it is simply a door into another phase, a phase of abundant life, blessings, influence and authority. But in all of this we are more than a conqueror. It is within The Will of God that grace is made available because "God is able to make all grace abound towards you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work."
Outside the will, there will be no grace to leave a trace on the sands of time. The Will of God means doing things the God way, making decisions that God has instructed, beginning a project that is exactly on the mind of God. The Will of God means what God intends to do. The former treatise and account have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, if God intended to teach and to do, Jesus was doing it. Acts 10:38 says; How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. He was doing good everywhere He went doing the will of the Father.
Jesus Christ teaching His disciples how to pray in Matthew 6:9-10; He said, Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done. When you have finished hallowing the name of God, you enforce His kingdom by obeying His will, and what is His will? The works that you do by faith! When Jesus sent the 70 out to preach, the Bible says He sent them before His face to where He Himself intends to go; meaning that they were going on that journey by His will. If you will ever make the right choice, it is in His will. If you will ever be elevated, you must have obeyed His will. If you will ever make great exploits in ministry, business and career, it must be by His will. There can be no sure way other than His will. The truth is, The Will of God, and the right life is gotten in The Will of God.
After complete obedience to the will of the Father, then He was qualified to pray this prayer: "I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was." And He is now seated and settled at the right hand of the Father. Haven been exalted and glorified He was given the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
What is The Will of God compelling you to do? The door may be open but you have to walk through it. For Jesus, the door to glory elevation and uplifting was tied to the cross. So what is God saying to you? What is The Will of God for your life? What is The Will of God for you at this season of your life? Don't be deceived, that will is the way out.
Amen!
