"Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?"
John 8:3-5
From the text above, we can deduce that Moses no doubt, was a leader that these people are identified with. We should never forget that God raised up Moses as a deliverer for the children of Israel. In Exodus 3:10-11, God said to Moses: "Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?"
Listen to Podcast: WHOSE LEADERSHIP MODEL DO YOU FOLLOW?
From here, we can see that there was no reason for the children of Israel to doubt Moses leadership because they knew he was a man sent from God to deliver them. Based on that, Moses became a model for their leadership. They would rather do what Moses say than do what God says. At a point, they even told Moses in Exodus 20:18-19 that "you can go ahead and talk to God, we don't want to hear Him. Whatever He tells you, you tell us." That was how much they revere the man and the leader Moses.
So, when they caught the woman in the act of adultery, they said to Jesus, "this woman deserve to die because of what she has done." And on what grounds should she die? They said because Moses commanded in the law that such should be put to death." Now, Jesus didn't fault their assertion about the law of Moses that commanded them to do so, because Jesus knew that such a law actually do exist. But see what Jesus said to them in verse 7: “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”
Now this is the crux of today's piece:
Number one: How far you would go as a leader would be determined by the leadership model or models that you have adopted for yourself. For example, Jesus is a perfect model of who a leader is. If you follow Jesus' model of leadership, you would command great results even as Jesus did. In John 14:12, Jesus said this: "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father." That means you can't fail if Jesus is your model leader. There are two key things I want to point to us from that text we read earlier.
Number two: Your leadership reference matters a lot as a leader. Your leadership reference to a larger extent points people to the direction and the paths you follow. In John 8:37-39, Jesus said: “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.” They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham."
Whoever you referenced as a leader, his work you would do. Jesus said to them "you can't claim you belong to Abraham and you don't do the works of Abraham. You can't say you belong to Jesus and you don't do the works of Jesus. It is absolutely impossible. There was an example to corroborate this assertion. In John 8:44, Jesus said "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it."
That tells you that whosoever you referenced as a leader, that person's work and manner of life you must do and imbibe. So, in summary, if you are looking forward to commanding great results in your leadership assignment, then two things are very key for you. Number one, examine the type of leadership model that you imbibe and the source of this model, because every leadership model definitely have a source. When you imbibe the model, it means you have accepted the source.
Your leadership reference show the people who you follow. And who you follow determines the kind of work and the results that you command. Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 11:1 (Amp) it says: "PATTERN YOURSELVES after me [follow my example], as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah)." What he was simply telling them is that Christ is his model and reference point, and therefore, the people can confidently imitate him.
In your organization, who is your model of leadership? In your family who is your model of leadership? As you ponder on these questions, the Holy Spirit will broaden it in your heart in Jesus' name, Amen.
God bless you.
