David the Psalmist spoke by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost in Psalm 23:5 saying; “Thou preparest a table before me” What was He trying to say when He said that? I want us to take note of that word “table.” What is a table? A table is a piece of furniture with a flat top and one or more legs, providing a level surface for eating, writing, or working on. We can put it this way; a table is a platform or a level surface for either writing, working or eating. So, it means the psalmist was saying the Lord provided a platform for me where I can write, the same platform can hold my food and there also is where I work.
The beginning of greatness in every man is the ability to locate a plat form prepared by the Lord, that enables him to write, eat or work and this applies to every facet of human endeavour. A lot of people do not know or are not conscious of the table that has been set before them. It is sad not to know that the Lord has prepared every good thing for us yet we can’t find or locate where such good has been kept or hidden for us by God for our Feast.
Imagine a Feast been prepared and waiting for a very hungry man, the only thing that can deny him the reality of him feeding on that table is ignorance and not being aware of the presence of that table. It takes discernment and revelation to know where and when a table has been prepared. A lot of times several tables are been prepared but we do not have the capacity see nor perceive it. This is the dilemma a lot of people are in, especially those who claim to be children of God. They either think they are called into the life of suffering and poverty or they accept their fate and continue to wallow in mediocrity, obscurity and ignorance, failing to realize that they must be hungry, they must discern, they must be sensitive in order to see the Lord’s table. In this piece, I will show you how kingdom citizens attract, discern and partake of the Feast prepared for them by God.
Have you been to a Feast or banquet before? I am sure you have. One of the things I have observed among many other things about Feast is that it can never be complete without arrangements of table. So, it is not just enough for the proper arrangement of table but also assorted meals are served. You can’t serve a meal that is honourable without a table. So, table is very important as far as Feast is concerned. The Psalmist said thou prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies. In other words, you prepared a Feast in the presence of my enemies. The table is in a presence but hidden from the eyes of demons because they are the real enemies we have. This shows that the Lord is a preparer of table for every of His sons but it is the responsibility of sons to discern that table and to Feast on it. And this takes revelation.
Again, the Scripture says; “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him and are called according to His purpose.” Can we see the word “prepared” coming up again? This Scripture is further buttressing what the Psalmist said earlier, there is a table prepared for you and that table is not visible to either you, your enemies, not even your biological parents or friends. But the basic and fundamental criterial to enjoying this Feast according to this Scripture is to first love Him, and heed to the call of purpose He has placed upon your life and destiny. True Feast come to sons of the kingdom who are called according His purpose. Your table is prepared in your purpose.
The Bible says;“we have been blessed with all Spiritual blessings in heavenly places through Christ Jesus.” So, the table of Feast the Psalmist was talking about is a spiritual table and that table is in Christ Jesus. And it is important for us to be mindful of what we feed on,because who we are, and who we will ever become is a product of what we feed on. If Christ and His word is what we feed on, or have Christ as one who nourishes us, we will ultimately become like Christ. The Bible made us to realize that as we behold Him, we are been transformed from one level of glory to another.
Let me show us an example. See what Genesis 4:23 says; “therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.” This statement was referring to Adam,if you feed on flesh you will function according to the flesh isn’t it? Look at that statement again, it says; “to till the ground from which he was taken” Does it look like change of diet? Yes, it is! If you Feast on the Spirit will become a spirit man.Who you are and who you will be is ultimately a reflection of what you feed on, andwhat you feed on is a reflection of the condition you are in.So, I don’t need you to tell me how fine your living condition is; if I know what you eat, and how you feed it is a direct reflection of your standard of living. This was the case of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32, one of the ways we knew his condition has gone so bad was that he was feeding from the same food the swine were feeding from.
Jesus understood this principle so he said; “I am the bread of life” He went further to say that your fathers ate manner in the wilderness and are dead” did you now see that the quality of life of our life depends whether we feats on the light of Christ or we Feast on something else? This was what Jesus was trying to tell the devil the one who came to tempt Him. He said; “man must not live by bread alone by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” so choose this day between life and death, whether you will live or die is a product of what you have chosen to feed on, and who you have chosen to feed with. So, what are the basic things that can prevent a man from seeing the table God has prepared for his Feast, glory and merriment?
Hard-heartedness and refusal to accept the invitation of Christ
See what Revelations 3:20 says; “behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”Did we see that? Jesus said I stand and knock, this is a spiritual invitation, is it now clear to us why He said He is the bread of life? He said once you open the door of your heart; you can Feast with Him. As long as you refuse His invitation, you will never Feast on the table He has prepared for you.
Impatience and disloyalty
Let’s see what Luke 22:28-30 says; “You are those who have remained and have stood by Me in My trials; 29 and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you [the privilege] 30 that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.I love this, it said you who have stood by me, you who have been loyal, you who have associated yourself with my work, you haven’t denied me, you who is not ashamed of my work and the work of my Father, you who have been obedient to the instructions I give, you who have been faithful, will have the privilege to eat and drink at my table. Is Jesus Christ saying to you that you should be more loyal to Him than you have been to the world? His table is field with all goodness but have to be loyal to have access to it.
Blindness and lack of perception to light
Until the angel opened the eyes of Hagar the mother ofIshmael, they were ignorant to the provision of water in the desert. What you go through or the predicament you are in right now is perpetuating because you are ignorant of a provision of the Lord. You are stocked in life not because your problem is your environment, or your family background, it is simply a problem of blindness and ignorance. Until the eyes of Abraham were opened, he did see the provision of lamb that was to replace Isaac on the mountain of sacrifice. Stop giving excuses hear what God is saying and you enjoy what is on the outside. Hagar was crying for lack of water because her environment was a desert, she wasn’t aware that there is a spiritual well beside her. All she needed was her eyes to be open. And when it actually opened her thirst and that of her son was satisfied. Perhaps the Lord is saying to you today, I have a spiritual table prepared beside you, rather than complain about many things you should open your eyes.
Unbelief and sarcasm
The Bible says Jesus couldn’t do much in His home town because of the peoples unbelieve. Hear what an officer whose hand the king leaned told Elisha the man of God “look if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” And the prophet replied him saying; “in fact, you will see it with your eyes, but you will not eat of it” See that? This is no longer a problem of famine and scarcity anymore, as a matter of fact the word from the Lord had settled it, the table had been prepared via the word, His problem is not that he can’t see but because he didn’t believe. How many of the Feast of the word have you missed because of your unbelief? Several words from the Lord continue to elude us because we can’t believe what God is saying to us.“Blessed is she that believes, for there shall be a performance of what has been said to her by my Lord”, because with God, nothing is impossible. Jesus said to Thomas one of His disciples, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
Lack of discernment
Jesus stood by the pool of Bethesda and asked a man who had been in that condition for thirty-eight years. Jesus asked him a simple question; “Do you want to be made well?” just like Jesus standing beside a lot of us asking the same question. The man’s reply; “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up” He believed more in the ministry of angels more than the help Jesus can render. Why did I say so? Because it was angels that come to stir the water from time to time. He couldn’t discern that one greater than the angel was standing right before him. He does not have to step into the pool, all he needs to do is to pick up his mat and go home. Help from God is standing right in front of him and he is looking for the help of men see the excuse he was giving; “sir I have no man to put me in the pool” That was a Feast prepared for him, that was a reason for his merriment and jubilation but it almost eluded him because He didn’t discern the invitation.
See what Jesus said to the Samaritan woman. “if you know who it is that says to you give me a drink” it means she didn’t know, she didn’t discern who was speaking with her. A lot of us miss deeper dimensions and spiritual insights because we don’t know who is speaking to us and what he says to us. We don’t know the value of what He is offering to give us. Jesus said; “if you know the gift of God” This is a Feast and offer for fellowship and depth in the Spirit. If you don’t know what you need, will you request for it? If you don’t what someone has, will you make demands for it? Lack of discernment.
Once again Jesus is sayingbehold, I stand at the door of your heart and knock. It is your acceptance that would orchestrate a Feast. The Bible says; “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled” Until you are hungry you won’t look for spiritual meal and until you have had enough of it, you won’t be filled. So, this is one of the fundamental criteria to locating the Feast that Christ has prepared for us. And what are the things we expect to see when we come to the Feast of Christ? See what the Scripture says in Romans 14:17, “for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” So, righteousness, peace and joy are what Christ Jesus offers at the table for our enjoyment and pleasure. And it says; “in the Holy Spirit” not in the flesh. The Holy Spirit factor can never be taken out of the equation. Since this table is spiritual, then the Holy Spirit is very important to be connected to if we must partake from this Feast.
I believe you have been blessed!
