LORD, GIVE ME THE RIGHT HUNGER OR I DIE

Understanding Divine Principles that Produces Spiritual Authority

Every man is moved towards what he is hungry for. Judas Iscariot was equally hungry like every one of the twelve but all were not hungry for same item of need. And when he saw an opportunity to satisfy the hunger in his flesh, he laid hold of it. And because the hunger and satisfaction in the flesh profits nothing, though he was hungry, the satisfaction he got was the reason he destroyed himself. But the rest couldn't lay hold on any tangible item until the day of Pentecost. But they never stopped to be hungry until they were satisfied. And because it is the Spiritual hunger that is profitable unto life everlasting, their joy of satisfaction overflows to the point that they didn't remember the pains of death.

Everyone is indeed hungry, but what's it you are hungering for? No matter how hungry a goat is, it will not eat meat. And a bowl of EBA (or pounded yam) can't quench thirst. What hunger has driven you to Jesus? Why are you in/with Church/Christ, what have you come to gain? Are you following Jesus because your Bank Account is tiny and you what it fat? Are you following Jesus because your rent might soon expire? What's your hunger? Or are you coming to fellowship because you want votes to win the next election? Many who hunger for the wrong thing often times get their feed, but it often becomes a snare that consumed them and held them back from obtaining the promise of the better thing.

The Israelites were hungry indeed in the wilderness, but for the wrong thing, and the Bible says after they were filled, God sent leanness in their midst and they were consumed. What is your hunger? What are you actually hungry for, is it for meat that will perish? Hear this, except you are hungry for the meat that will never perish, whatever things you could get, undoubtedly, you will still leave them here or they will live you here. The only true gain anyone of us can gain from this life is Jesus. The only single thing you and I can ever take out of this world when leaving it behind is Jesus, the Lord, our Hope and Glory.

Let Him that is the only gain you (and I ) can get from life becomes your hunger. Except the hunger in your heart exceed that of the hunger in your stomach, Sir/Ma, we might likely be forgotten so soon the moment we are gone from the face of the earth regardless of how greatly satisfied we become in things we possessed under the sun; in gold, silver, naira, dollars, children, fame, clothing, certificate, houses, wives, and the likes in our lifetimes. Our true hunger must be that of the Spirit, the Living bread, the bread of heaven, and Him alone, should be the satisfaction we are filled with less we will suffer the loss of everything. This is a burden we must raise a cry unto God for. It is a critical matter we must not rest until it is settled in our spirits, until the Will of God becomes our will and the prayer we pray. Oh Lord, My Father, this is the cry of my soul, let the hunger of my spirit exceed the hunger that I have in my flesh. Let my hunger for you exceed the hunger I have for my daily food and clothing and Comfort, Oh Lord!

Whether we like it or not, accept it or reject it, our degree of exploit in the kingdom is to the degree of our Hunger for “The Living Bread”. And God won't make spiritual supply to us above our level of hunger. The More the hunger the more the spiritual supply, and the little the right hunger we manifest towards Him the little the spiritual supply. Spiritual supply is always to the degree of spiritual hunger in man! We are living in a generation, a time and season, that so much is desired, a lot is wanted, but just a few is seen, and little is received. A critical time has come upon us —the generation we live in is not without hunger — in fact, we are full of hungers, desires and so much wants. We want so much but nothing seems to be happening. We wished that happens, we pray the other situation does not remain the same. In a time and season that we are, how can we characterize our time, and the season that has come upon us? What child are we going to be delivered of before the night falls on us?

Verily, verily I say unto you, this generation is not in any way the least to be talked about when it comes to the matter of commitment to seasonless prayers; it is not way a mere generation when we talk about her production in terms of prayers. We can beat our chest in confidence before every other passed generation that we pray the most, and we fast the most. The tendency to pray as a matter of concern we can say is our hobby. No other passed generation can compete with us in that because if they do, and prayer were to a race, they won't see our shadow not to talk of facing us to debate it. But what then can we point to that is wrong thing us? It has never he heard before that a congregation of people ever fasted for 100 days at a scratch, nor keep vigils as often as we do today. During the longest vigil that was recorded the first in the Bible; Acts of the Apostles, because it was not what the people were used to, a member of the team fell off the window and died, if not for the Divine presence that was evident in their midst that brought him back to life.

Friend, can we be sincere with ourselves to examine our manner of life; what really is wrong thing us, we do so much of prayers, conversation with the supernatural but we are so empty of the supernatural? What has gone wrong with us, where are we missing it, could it be that we have put the last thing first, and the first thing last? Definitely, it is either something is wrong with our prayers or we are not praying for the right thing — our hunger is defected. There was a situation that played out between Jesus and the multitude that followed Him during the early stage of His ministry while He was on the earth bodily. I see the need for us to consider the matter carefully should the condition we find ourselves is similar to theirs, and if truly it is, then we (you and I) have to fervently seek the Lord in prayer to align our drive and hunger for Him correctly.

The incident happened immediately the people were hungry and Jesus fed them and their children from a miraculous supply from the father in the wilderness. We might not have the time to read the story to see how the entire scenes played out; At your spare time you may pick up the story to study in John chapter 6. But our interest is the aftermath of the eating and drinking, after that the people have eaten and were satisfied. It was not bad that they were hungry and were fed, and came to the realization that Jesus is Powerful and was a great prophet; but the dissatisfaction of Jesus was with the drive, the hunger, motive with which they went or seek after Him (God). This occurrence was recorded in John chapter 6; we will first read verse 22 to 27, then verse 35, verse 51, and verse 58:

"On the following day, when the people who were standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except that one which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with His disciples, but His disciples had gone away alone— however, other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks— when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You come here?” Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.  Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.  I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

They spent their energy about for meat, food for their tummy, what they will eat and go to pass them out after a while. They were indeed HUNGRY, but the concern Jesus rebuked them on was the kind of food that they were hungry for, what birthed the HUNGER in them. They were after the yearning of the flesh; things that can't endure, temporary riches of fleshly pleasure, which their glories are often done away with their uses. Could it be that the passion that pushed you, or that drove me into the fold, is merely for you (or I) to eat and be filled, to grow self-possession and self-name (my household name), so that people can congratulate me that I have made a name for myself, a have risen beyond what they thought of me?

Surely, it is our HUNGER that will determine the extent of our rising and falling in the general (eternal)counsel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Except our heart cut the right hunger we can't really go far; we don't have future in the revival that we wish it comes through us in our time. We won't have what it takes to birth anything that we conceive outside Christ— He must become our Living Hunger else we have no part in the Glory we seek.

The question that is kicking so hard in my spirit that I wish such zeal and holy anger is built-in in you is that, why should I pray and not receive answer for my prayers, or why must the answer to my pray remain the constant NO? They believed and they spoke, and it happened, why then should I speak and it should not happen? What is the difference in him that prayed and got the right answer from I that pray and never see my expectation come through: how were their hunger different from mine?

It is sufficient for us to begin to see some examples of men who prayed and their word didn't fall down void in their generation, so we can align with the matter the Lord is addressing with us regarding the prayer we pray. It is risky not to pray, yet it is more much sickly to pray without getting the answer to the prayer even after ceaseless prayers and waiting. Prayerlessness is bad, but of what use it is for a man to pray, pray, and pray and gets no fruit from laboring in the place of prayers? Of course, an answer to prayer could tarry, but should all my prayer answers be subjected to long term? Yet there are men who prayed and got their answers at the very hour or season, why others who prayed were told to wait for the answers to come. Daniel prayed for Israel’s deliverance while in captivity, and got answer that the prayer wouldn't happen until the time appointed for it: 70 years; yet the same Daniel prayed at another time and his prayers was answered the very moment he prayed.

Prayer didn't begin with us, so it won't be sufficient for us to say, maybe answers are not coming only because it is not yet time. No, no, no when prayer is done with the wrong hunger, desire, the answer will not come, such is not even a question of delay at all. In the letter of James to the church we read about some hindrance to the matter of prayers which is equivalent to the hunger that men pray with. James chapter 4 verse 1 through to 4:

"What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you?  You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask [pray]. You ask [pray] and do not receive, because you ask [pray] wrongly, to spend it on your passions [fleshly hunger]. You, adulterous people [fleshly hungry men and women]! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world [fleshy hungered] makes himself an enemy of God."

Prayer actually didn't start with the New Testament brethren, no it is not, it didn't start with Jesus in the Book of Matthew, prayer has been. So, if we are looking for men that prayed and got answer to their prayers, we can't say they are scarce, they are not. And it is equally true that prayer as far as God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, prayer can never lose its fervency — prayer is nonperishable. I am been fascinated by men and women of old who prayed through Faith and got exactly what they asked for. They didn't miss water and oil together, they only prayed by Faith to the same God, their God and our God and Father, and the Bible says, He didn't allow their prayers to fall to the earth: they got what they prayed for. According to Joshua chapter 10 verse 12 to 14, the Bible says,

On the day that the Lord gave the men of Israel victory over the Amorites, Joshua spoke to the Lord in the presence of the Israelites, he said, ‘Sun, stand still over Gibeon; Moon, stop over Aijalon Valley.’   The sun stood still and the moon did not move until the nation had conquered her enemies. This is written in The Book of Joshua; the sun stood still in the middle of the sky and did not go down for a whole day. Never before, and never since, has there been a day like it, when the Lord obeyed a human being. The Lord fought on Israel's side!".

It was not a go and come matter, on the very spot, same time. Oh Lord, here is the cry that we cry to you, give us the right hunger for why should we pray, and not receive? Has the hand of our God gone weary, or His ears out of joint that He won't hear us, Oh Lord, we are confident that you are the same at all times, you don't grow old, neither can you faint or be weary? Give us the right hunger. Of course, our heart can't forget the exploit of the man of God, prophet Elijah of Israel in the days of Ahab the king in 2 king chapter 1, what he did to the army of Ahab who were sent to arrest Elijah. We could say it was brutal or too heavy and drastic, but the people were the one who would not or fail to retain knowledge in their heart, for how should anyone deal boast himself against the Lord and stretch forth his hand against the Lord's anointed, it is foolishness and it won't end in pleasure at all.

When the captain of the fifty and his fifty came to the place where the man of God is, you could imagine the foolishness that came out of their mouth: “Man of God, the king orders you to come down at once!” It was evidently clear that the people were not ignorant of the person that Elijah was; they only proposed in their heart that they won't have regard for the Lord God of Israel. And the man of God unleashed the wrath of God upon them and they were consumed.

The last person I will love to draw your attention to in this order is the man called David, one of the ancient kings of Israel. One thing that stood David out in his generation and among his contemporary down to the day of Christ Jesus was that, it was recorded about him that, he was a man after the heart of God. But it is still not an excuse for us to say in our mind that maybe he had a wonderful experience because he was anointed and we are not. No, whatever he was, we are much more. If David was anointed, we have higher anointing than David. If Solomon, David’s son, was loved by God, and we think it was the reason for his outstanding performance and there could be no way we can measure up, that equally is not a matter at all. Solomon was loved because of the relationship or covenant that the Lord cut with his father, David. Wow! How much perfect and elegant is the Love if the Lord God for us because of the covenant that have united us with God Himself in Christ Jesus, the One whose life speaks better thing than the life of David? We, believers are the most privileged and fortunate people on the face of the earth.

There are so may prayers that king David prayed all through his life time. But one of them stood out of them all, because he sought it by mercy not by merit, not by anointing but mercy, not by obedience but in Mercy, not my anything good that he has done but through Faith and mercy only. The prayer he prayed while he was weeping and running away from the treason of his son Absalom against him. As David was walking a way that that hot afternoon, the Levites were with him, the priest who were carrying the ark of the Lord God of Israel were with him among others. So, they all crossed but David asked the Levites and the priests who were bearing the ark of the Lord to return to Jerusalem the city of the Lord; by that David demonstrated his total trust and confidence in the Lord his God. But that's not our main interest in this chapter 15 of 2 Samuel. Our concern is verse 31.

It says, "Then someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O Lord, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”  Particularly, our interest in this verse is to raise some question about this prayer that King David offered to the Lord. And we are so much interested in the prayer because it is far insignificant if compared to what every average Christian in this generation will do or can do when it comes to the issue of prayers. David didn't cast and bind, he didn't speak in tongue about it like we do today, he didn't fast about it, he didn't have to declare 100 days fasting, or 3 days dry fasting to receive this critical matter from the Lord.

Maybe you don't understand what we are talking about because you don't know much about the personality of the man called Ahithophel. And don't forget, he was not the only one that was with Absalom, no, he was not, but David knew the who, and the potency of the counsel of this man. As a matter of fact, we can say that Ahithophel was anointed for the office he occupied in the days of David. God intentionally ordained him to minister before David. I will show you one of the credentials of this very man, and one of his advices to Absalom and how that counsel was the fulfillment of the very word of God. According to 2 Samuel chapter 16 verse 23, this very man was not just a mere counselor, he lived by counseling, meaning he made his living by ministering to men accurate and uncompromising counsels: Now the advice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if one had inquired at the oracle of God. So was all the advice of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom."

He was a counselor to kings not ordinary men and women who are just walking up and down. In verse 21 to 22, the advice that the world class advisor gave to the son of David was exactly the Word of Nathan the prophet to king David, and I am very sure that neither David nor the prophet made the matter public when it was spoken to David. Ahithophel said to Absalom before the rest conspirators saying, “Go in to your father’s concubines, whom he has left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you are abhorred by your father. Then the hands of all who are with you will be strong.” So, they pitched a tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel."

Remember the prayer of David, Ahithophel might be a professional counselor, but in the counsel that he has to function at this time and season, it is a disobedient against the man after God's heart, a man that's beloved by God, a man that God can't play with His matter, nor gamble with his destiny; for the Lord has cut covenant with His anointed. The man of God prayed to the Lord, and God can't watch the Word to fall to the earth. So, his ability to function in the right proportion was turned upside-down. God answered the prayer of David according to the desire of his heart against his enemy. 2 Samuel chapter 17 verse 14 and 23 recorded the end of the great Ahithophel:

"So Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had purposed to defeat the good advice of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring disaster on Absalom. Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice was not followed, he saddled a donkey, and arose and went home to his house, to his city. Then he put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died; and he was buried in his father’s tomb."

One of the most recommendation of God about king David was that, he was a man after God's heart, and to keep us in tune with the manner of life that David lived before the Lord, the Bible has it recorded that, “After David had served his generation according to the Will of God, he slept and was buried with his fathers". He had a hunger which was definitely stated:  he was "A man after the mind of God ". His hunger was God. There was even a place in the Book of Psalm that David wrote that, his desire and hunger for the Word of God, and to appear before the house of God, surpassed that of his hunger for food. This is in line with the problem Jesus is addressing with the multitude in the Book of John chapter 6 where we first began this meditation. And it has become a serious matter before us today. David said that his fleshly hunger for food and external things is nothing compared to the hunger in his heart after the pursuit of God.

Should we begin to think that he was able to do that because there was a special ability that he enjoyed that is not available to us because God declared him a man after His heart? As a matter of fact, every grace that David enjoyed is nothing when it comes to the fullness of Grace that's packed full for us in Christ Jesus. It is written concerning us in the Holy Scripture saying, " For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ." I Corinthians 2:16, NKJV.)

We have the mind of Christ (the express image of God bodily). meaning whatever is true for Christ is true for every one of us. In comparison, there has none like us who have walked the face of this earth on before the inauguration of the Church in the Acts of the Apostle chapter 2. With this, you can now perceive clearly the basis from which the Holy Spirit is speaking to us from. How comes they believed and spoke, and received by their confession of Faith, and it seems we are not receiving despite all the prayers and activities we do today? How comes we have the mind of Christ but almost zero of the hunger of Christ? Or could it be that we have exchanged our hunger for something else, perishable things? What is it that has become your hunger as you journey through with God?

In sincerity, how have you continued in the journey with Christ, it is impossible to have the mind of Christ and not have the hunger of Christ, except that your mind have gone to something else, and your hunger is exchanged for what has taken hold of your mind.  (See 1 Cor. 6:17). We can't keep quiet to walk through this world silently without manifestation. Our present situation is calling for a serious cry unto our Father, to birth the Right hunger in us, and make us a people that the earth will find cure for her decay in us. We have a duty to show the world the path to righteousness. We are duty bound in our generation to bring down the Will of God, our Kingdom to be done on the face of the earth. We must cry until our lives are healed. We must cry until we have the right hunger that can birth a transformed world. We must refuse to exit this earth without at least a unique story to tell the saints that we read about their stories and impacts on the pages of the Bible.

In this, we have a responsibility. We must see the yearning of our heart in our lives and through our lives, and in our generation, we have a responsibility. See the condition the Lord is placing before us if we desire to step into the ancient path that made men of old to cry aloud that their world is turned upside-down. If we will shake the earth again, if we will put the devil in his place again, and birth a new move of God in our time, such that will cause corrupt minds to weep in repentance, and cause ungodliness to give way from our midst such that there will be fire burning in our bones and we are distinguished from the people of the world in passion, purpose, and pursuit, we must look at this word carefully to do it as the Lord has rightly instructed us according to Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11 to 13: "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord , thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart."  Our God gives no room for rival at all; we must consciously and consistently, let go of whatever that is competing for His space in us (in our hearts).

"If you seek me with all your heart". This is the principle; this is the condition that will cure us from being useless in our days. The only condition that will birth the right hunger in us. We have done so much, we have waited for too long enough already, but the more we intensify the activities the lesser is the results we see, why then must we continue to avoid our solution to do what wouldn't yield result?

This was one thing Jesus never turned His back on, the same thing we have left to bury our lives in so much activities. Jesus told the disciples, " My meat is to do His Will and to Finish it". This remained His hunger all through His ministry on the earth. If we were to possess His mind according to the scripture, would our hunger be different from His? No, even if our mind were to be same with His, as long as our hunger does hot tally with His, we can't command same result. Our hunger must be same with His for us to be able to get same result as His. He sought the will of the Father with all His heart, every day, every time, and everywhere he went, the Bible says He keeps doing good, things that He sees the Father do. It was not randomly for Jesus; it is not possible that our Father and His to excuse us from it.

Except we have conditioned our mind for this one thing, we can't possess the right hunger, and if we don't possess the right hunger, we can't command Christ's result. We won't be able to do exploit like the disciples of old and even more. We can't stand on the fence, we have to humbly admit that we in deed were given away too many things, but now we accept to turn to our Lord, our Maker and Father, the One that we belong, and we accept to seek Him with the whole of our hearts. And in humility we desire the right hunger in our hearts toward His eternal counsel for us. Lord, birth in us the right hunger, the only reality that will birth our manifestation and walking in the supernatural. We are not sufficient of ourselves, it is you who is both to Will in us, and to do of your good pleasure, Lord we have returned that your will be done in us, in Jesus mighty name!

Lord Jesus, I confess to you that I have sinned against the LORD God - in the rebellion of my heart, I have disappointed your expectations on my life. I have fallen from Your grace and followed wrong influences around me. Today, I retrace my steps back to you - and I ask that in your mercy you accept me as your son and give to me (again) the promise of the Father - the Holy Spirit. Lord Jesus, please, come and make my heart your home, and from there rule in the affairs of all men. In Jesus Name I have prayed.
