The Law Of Exchange In Leadership

THE LAW OF EXCHANGE IN LEADERSHIP
You Cannot Give What You Don't Have

When we talk of exchange, what readily comes to your mind? From a lay man's point of view, exchange simply has to do with giving up something to receive something in return. If we examine the barter system before the advent of paper money, the one we all refer to as Trade by Barter, we will discover that the system was run on the basis of using what you have to get what you want.

Even God, when He wanted to reconcile us back to Himself again, the bible recorded in John 3:16 that He needed to offer His only begotten son, Jesus Christ to get us again. Another instance was when He wanted to give us His nature, the bible says Jesus needed to take upon Himself the sinful nature so that we can posses the righteous nature of God (2 Corinthians 5:21). In another instance, the scriptures says Jesus became poor so that we might be rich (2 Corinthians 8:9).

From these above examples, we can see that exchange takes place when you give up something to receive another one.

What then is the law of Exchange In Leadership? This is where we are really going right now. The Law of Exchange as it relates to leadership simply states that "You cannot give what you don't have." It is not enough to aspire for leadership position and there is nothing wrong in wanting to be a leader, the question is do you have what and all it takes to become one? Do you have faith like the disciples of Jesus Christ (Matthew 17:15-21) or do you have the boldness like David who killed Goliath? (1 Samuel 17).

As a leader, what are you bringing to the table, what are you going to do differently that will set you apart from every other leaders that have been before you? I see a lot of candidates jostling to become the next president of Nigeria, displaying their credentials and all manner of achievements here and there, but none of them have been able to convincingly say how they would take Nigeria out of the present mess that it has found herself.

If one of your aspirations in life is to lead a people, a nation or an organization, the first thing you must do is to develop your capacity first. By doing that, you would command the natural followership of the people you are leading. It was easy for the Children of Israel to follow Moses because he hears from God. It was also easy for David to be king over the people of Israel because he had killed Goliath and they were aware of it. To be able to have something to give in leadership, you need to develop your capacity first. This is usually the starting point.

Word of Confession: (Optional)

Lord Jesus, I confess to you that I have sinned against the LORD God... In Jesus Name I have prayed.
The Seeds given to you by God are to be sown, but wisdom demands that you give attention to where you sow and how you sow. Because you ultimately reap from what you have sown. If your sowing is bountiful, your harvest will never be sparingly.
