HOW TO MAKE THE WORD OF GOD WORK FOR YOU

Discover Practical Ways Through Which the Word can Work for You

Listen To Podcast: How To Make The Word of God Work For You

In this article, I want to share with us something that I believe is very simple, but also it is practicable. One of the things that we must understand about the Word of God is that it is practicable, the word of God is not vague, the word of God can be practiced. And when we practice the Word of God, it can produce such results in the order of God. In this piece, I just want to show us something that I believe is going to help us in our understanding of the word of God, and how the Word of God can work for you and I in order for it to bring the expected results into our lives. So, I want to share with us How to Make the Word of God Work for You.

One of the things that I've realized is that a lot of believers find it so hard to make the Word of God work for them. Now, the problem is not about the Word of God. Because many times in the Bible, the efficacy and the potency of the Word of God has been proven. You know, the Bible make us to understand in Isaiah chapter 55, that God said, as heaven is far from the earth, so His ways and thoughts is far from the way we think. And He also said in the same chapter, that every word that he has spoken to us, he says they will not return back to Him void until it has performed that which He sent it to do.

So, most of the time, when believers find it very difficult or hard to make the Word of God work for them, the challenge is not with the Word of God. Now it is true that we read the Bible, it is true that we hear the word of God, either being spoken to us or being preached to us. But it is quite unfortunate that many times we try to see the realities of this word in our lives and it appears we don't see them. So, in this piece, we want to see how we can practically make the Word of God to work for us because we we've known; according to what David said, let me show us Psalm 12. There is something I want to show us that will form the basis of what we are talking about.

If you read Psalm chapter 12, from verse6-7, David, by the Spirit of God said something that is so profound about the Word of God. It says: The words of the Lord are pure words…” meaning the words that proceed from the mouth of God are pure words, meaning that there is no impurity in the Word of God. They are pure It says further: “like silver, tried in a furnace of earth and purified seven times. Now, that is showing us something about the efficacy and the potency of the Word of God. It says, like silver tried in the earth, it is purified seven times. It says you shall keep them, oh, Lord, you shall preserve them from this generation forever.

So, what exactly is that ministering to us? It simply telling us that the Word of God is pure. If you and I find it very difficult or hard to make the Word of God work for us, the problem is not with that word. The problem is the way and manner we approach the Word of God. And the truth of the matter is, and we must simply tell ourselves, that many believers today don't give the much seriousness to the Word of God that it requires. Now we have Bibles, we have the word of God being preached to us, but many times we don't pay attention. Now don't forget Solomon wrote in Proverbs chapter 4:20. It says: “says my son attend to my words...The reason why it appears the Word of God is not working for us, is because we don't give the due diligence or the much diligence to the Word of God that it requires.

Now one of the things you must understand is that there is a tenacity to bringing about the Word of God producing result for you. This tenacity is usually measured in the staying power, how much we are able to stay until we are able to see the result. Now, where the devil usually robs many of us is in that staying power. How to stay, how to remain tenacious and hold on to the word of God is where many believers miss it. Now you will hear or you will understand that it's not as if that word is not being preached to you. Don't forget the parable that Jesus told, He said when people receive the Word of God, He described many situations or circumstances that usually follow the word. He talked about those who fall on some heart that does not have soil, and so the word finds it very hard to germinates. Now, if you sum up that parable, what Jesus was trying to show us is that men lack the staying power. There is a staying power which is required in making the Word of God to work.

Now, let me show us another Scripture in First Peter chapter 1, Apostle Peter also was showing us the efficacy and the potency of the Word of God and I will just read from verse 22-25. Still talking about the efficacy of the Word of God, and its potency, its power, to bring about the results in the order of God. The Bible says:

Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever…”

So, this place is simply talking about the potency of the Word of God. If you notice what it says, it says that the word is incorruptible and hat word has the power and the capacity to get anyone saved. Now, what is that showing us? It is simply showing us the power of the Word of God. It says that word of God has the capacity to get anyone saved. Now, if you have been saved in the past, or you are listening and you are hoping to be saved, you cannot be saved outside the power of the Word of God. Because what brings about salvation is the preaching of the word. What brings about a repentance, and that thing that brought you to the place where you gave your life to Christ is simply because the word of God was preached to you and there was a conviction in your heart.

So, what is that telling us? It is simply showing us the power, the potency of the Word of God. Now look at what it says in verse 24. Peter said: “Because all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers…” In other words, the grass will be here today, and tomorrow, it will be no more, it says, and it flowers falls away. But the word of the Lord endures forever. So, this is showing us the other leg, it is showing us the efficacy. The first one shows us the potency, the power behind the Word of God. It says that word has the capacity to get anyone saved. There is something that ministers to you, when you hear the word of God and you have a rethink of heart and it shows your weakness. It shows your flaw. It shows that you need a saviour and a redeemer and you simply bring yourself to that place where you say, Lord, I know I am weak without you but by your word, I can be saved, and such a man receive salvation.

Now let me give us an example. In Acts chapter 2, when the apostles received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Bible made us to understand the Peter rose up, and he began to speak to the people, he began to preach the Word of God. And if you read the latter part of that chapter two, the Bible says, when men heard the word, the Bible says they were cut to the hearts. So, a work of regeneration began in them simply by what Peter spoke. Did we understand? That talks about the potency. And the Bible says they asked Peter, what shall we do? And Peter said to them repent, and be baptized, so that when the time of refreshing comes from the Lord, you can be part of it.

That is how powerful the word of God it, it has power. The Word of God is not weak. Sometimes it may come through a weaker vessel. But the word of God in itself is not weak, it is potent, it carries potential, every word of God spoken to you, has a potential force to birth the reality that it conveys. Do we understand? So, if the Word of God is not working practically for you now, you must, first and foremost, understand and settle it in your heart that the problem is never with the Word of God. If I am not growing spiritually, the problem is not because of the word. The problem is simply because I have not received the tenacity and the staying power to making that word work for me. So, Peter said in that verse 25, it says, the word of the Lord endures forever. Now, this is the world, which by the gospel was preached to you.

Do we understand? Now what I'm trying to let us see is that there is nothing wrong with the word, the Bible made us to understand that it is a seed. And that seed is incorruptible. Because if you are a farmer, one of the things that you carefully and you diligently do in any planting season, is that you sieve your seed, you simply select the best seed to be planted, because you don't want to plant a seed that peradventure, maybe weevil or termites had eaten. And that is why you see many farmers, no matter how plenteous the seed may be, the first thing they do is to sit down and begin to select them. They select the best seed for that planting season.

The Bible made us to understand that when the Word of God comes to us, that word is incorruptible. There is nothing bad in the word. It is always good. So, if you're not getting results, you should look at your practicality. How far are you staying on the word? Because there is a staying power when it comes to the world. And you must understand, there is a staying power, there is a kind of tenacity that bring about the birthing of the Word of God in us. Now look at Hebrews chapter 4:12. I'm just trying to lay this by background before we go into what we want to talk about. Still speaking about the potency of the Word of God, the Bible says: “For the word of God is living... The Word of God is not dead. Every word of God conveyed to you has life because it is coming from the mouth of a living God.

Jesus said in John chapter 6:63, it says the word that I speak to you, He didn't say they are dead. He says, they are spirit, and they are life.Do we understand? So, when the Word of God comes to us, it comes to us living. The word of God does not die on arrival, no, the word of God doesn't die in the process of its conveyance. The Word of God comes to you living, active. It says: the Word of God is living and powerful at the same time, potent. He says, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the Division of soul and spirits. No matter how thick your soul and spirit are, is telling you that the word of God can pierce it. No matter how dark your heart could be, it is showing us that the word of God can penetrate it, the word of God is light, so it can penetrate darkness. And that is why you see sometimes you begin to ask yourself, how come the most hardened people gave their life to Christ, the least people you could ever think could give their life to Christ, what appealed to their hearts? It is light.

Many of them received the word and the word penetrated, and it shattered their hearts, the wall of darkness around their heart, and then the word penetrated. It doesn't matter how far, or how deep your soul may have gone into the world; the word of God can penetrate it. It says the word of God is powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. As powerful as the word of God is, it says it can even go to your bones and marrow. So, peradventure you are facing challenges in your bones and in your marrows, you can send the Word of God to it.

There is no where the Word of God cannot penetrate. If the word of God can reach your bones and marrows that is not visible to the eyes, then tell me where the word of God cannot get to. That is showing us the potency, the power, it can pierce, even though you are struggling with it, it can pierce. Now, haven looked at the potency and efficacy of the Word of God, let us look at practical ways by which we can make the Word of God work for us. How can we make, you and I; the Word of God to work for us? How can we see the results, the manifestation of the Word of God in our lives? I will show us four things, four points that I wrote down. But I want us to open our Bibles to Romans chapter 10. The first and the second point that I want to show us is in the book of Romans chapter 10. And then we are going to read from verse 8. Now the Bible says:

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Now I believe we know this Scripture and we are familiar with it. Now the very first understanding if we want the word of God to work for us, the very first understanding we must have, is what that Scripture said. Now what did it say? It says, number one, the word is near you. Now, I don't know if you have taken time to meditate on that statement, the word is near you. How near is the word of God to you? The Word of God is near you, is not talking about the proximity of your Bible to your hands. The Word of God is nearer than that. The word is near you. How? Now, you must understand that many times, you could be farther away from your Bible. But the Scripture is saying even though your Bible is not with you, the word is near you. You could be in the office and your Bible is in the house, you didn't go with your Bible; it is saying the word is near you.

What it is simply saying is that the word of God nearing you or being close to you, means that that word must leave the pages of the Scripture into you. I don't know if we got that. The word is near you that he's talking about simply means that the word of God must be translated from what you read on the pages of the Scripture into you. Now this is how you will understand what he's saying. It says the word is near you. It says in your mouth. So, it's simply saying that the word of God nearing you is as close as it been in your mouth, meaning that word must leave the pages of the Scripture into your mouth. You must chew the Word of God in your mouth. And it says your heart.

Now what he's saying is this. When you read the Word of God, now we are looking at practical ways of making the Word of God work for you. What he's saying in that Scripture is that when you read the Word of God, it should not remain in the letters. Because practically speaking, what you read in your Bible are letters. But for that word to be able to translate from that letter, for the spirit of that word to enter into you so that it can become part and parcel of you; it says the word must leave the pages of the Scripture, it must be in your mouth. So, you must chew the word. And then when that word comes into your mouth, it is not supposed to stop there. It says it should go into your heart. The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart, not in your head.

Now there is something I want to explain to us. Many of us believers receive the Word of God in our head. Now that's talking about our brain. Now notice that Scripture didn't say in your head, it says in your heart. So, it's talking about something fundamental there, it is not talking about your heart that is pumping blood your biological heart is talking about your spirit. Your recreated human spirit, your spirit. You know, the Bible says there is a spirit in man and the inspiration of God gives him understanding. When the Word of God comes to you, it interacts with your spirit. That is as close as it can be when we are talking about the Word of God nearing you.

Now many of us try as much as possible to receive the Word of God in our head. And that is where all manner of calculation comes in. You know many times we want to reason out the word of God. Many times, we want to see how practicable the word of God is in a particular context and a particular situation. And most of the time, it doesn't work that way. You don't receive the Word of God in your head, the Bible says you receive the Word of God in your heart, the word of God that translates into spiritual realities for you are the Word of God that have interacted with your spirit. Now, your Bible may be million miles away, but the Word of God have left the pages of the Scripture into your spirit, you don't leave the house in the morning and you leave your spirit at home. How many of us do that? You know, you are going to work in the morning and say something like “my spirit, you remain at home today. Let my soul or my body go out.

Now we don't do that because we practically go about with our spirit, soul, and body. So, when the Word of God has come into your heart, it mixes with your Spirit, you receive it in your spirit being and that is how the Word of God is near you. But how does it get into your spirit? It first and foremost come into your mouth. So, which means when you receive the Word of God, the first thing you do is that you put that word in your mouth, you speak the word. I think that's what we call confession, right? You confess the word. Now, don't just read the Bible. Now we've established that the Word of God is potent, the word of God is powerful. The Word of God is incorruptible. It can birth the realities that it conveys if you can see the reality in the Scripture. But how does it birth that reality for you, it says you must put that word in your mouth.

So, this is it! We are talking practical now. Assuming you are going through something that is not palatable. So, the first thing you do is that you want to find out the Word of God concerning that thing. For example, a woman who is trusting God for the fruit of the womb. Now you don't begin to think that you are not giving birth yet or you don't have the child of your own. If you are a believer, where you start from making the Word of God to work for you, is by looking for the word of God; realities, how people who have suffered barrenness in the Scripture, how they were able to come out of it, what were the promises of God concerning them, because what He says to one, He says to all. And you begin to look out for those realities, and then you begin to put them in your mouth.

For example, the Bible says, none shall be in the land. So that is the starting point. So, you see that word, you see your potential reality in the Word of God and then you put it in your mouth. As you begin to chew that word in your mouth, it goes into your heart. Now look at the biological process. When you eat any particular meal in your mouth, it simply goes into your belly; is not the way it works? Now it goes into your belly, and then it supplies nutrients to every part of your body. Now that is how it works with the Word of God. Now, let me give us a practical example. You know, several years ago, when I was trusting God for admission, it was a serious trusting God, because it got to a point I needed to start praying and fasting to gain admission, you get the point.

So, one of the things that I did in those days is, I believe many of us are not familiar with our university but a couple of persons who are familiar with it, will understand. One of the things I did in those days was that I mingled with students, I go to the university campus, and I begin to read as one of the students even though I was not yet a student. Now, this is what I usually say to myself in those days, many times I will go to some of those strategic lecture theatres, you know, Ajose, ODLT and all of that, and I will be reading for JAMB and I will be telling myself that's by the special grace of God; one day I am going to sit in this lecture theatre, and I'm going to receive lecture as a legitimate student.

You know, I will go to the hostel because then I had a couple of friends who are already in the university. I will go to their hostels and I will be confessing what I see that one day, I am going to be given admission and I will live in such and such hostel, I will receive lectures in such and such hostels and all of those things. And I was confessing it, I was confessing it, I was studying, I was confessing that word. You know, I confessed it so much that it became a reality in my heart. I was not seeing myself again as a Jambite who was writing jamb, I began to see myself as a student. And lo and behold, when that year came for me to write jamb, I wrote jamb and I passed. Now, a number of oppositions rose up, in fact, I could have missed that admission that same year, narrowly.

But the Bible says the Word of God cannot fall to the ground. You see the word of God has so much shaped some realities within me that even though oppositions rose up, I was able to escape over those oppositions. Now, this is how it works. When you put the word of God in your mouth, and it becomes part and parcel of your spirit, it is able to build up spiritual realities in you. Now I believe we understand what spiritual realities is, you must begin or you will begin to see your potential physical reality in your spirit. Because whatever you cannot see in the spirit, you cannot birth in the physical. So, the word of God builds potential realities in your spirit and then it is those things that manifest in the physical. So, number one, you must be able to see your spiritual realities.

What are the things that the word God is saying to you? How can you see them? How can you actualize them? Now let me show you how you actualize them. Because you may be wondering, how exactly does this work? Now look at what it says. It says, the word is near you in your mouth and in your heart, the word of faith which we preach. Now he calls the Word of God, the Word of Faith. So, what does it tell you? It means that when you communicate the Word of God with yourself… now how do you communicate the Word of God with yourself? You put it in your mouth. When you communicate the Word of God with yourself, what it is simply saying is that you are communicating faith. You must be able to preach the word of God to yourself first until that word settles in your heart.

The word of God must be preached to yourself first. Whatever you read on the pages of the Scripture, you must first of all, be the preacher of your life, you must preach it to yourself. So, look at it this way. If you want faith to be built up in your life concerning any situation, what is it telling you, it says communicate it, communicate the faith to yourself. You don't need to wait until somebody preaches a message of faith to you. He says the Word of God is the word of faith. And you can communicate that faith to yourself. You can build spiritual virtues of faith by simply communicating the word of faith to yourself.

Now, don't simply read the Bible on the surface. Let me show us a Scripture in Mark chapter 11. I think this Scripture will help us to understand what it means to communicate. Now we are very close to where we are going. We are going to read from verse 12-14, and then we will jump to verses 20-24. There is this account about Jesus and His disciples and I want to read it to us, still talking about the communication of faith. The Bible says:

Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. 13 And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” And His disciples heard it.

Jesus spoke. Now Jesus was not speaking to humans here, Jesus was speaking to a tree. Now that tells us something that you can virtually communicate the Word of God, to anything. If the trees can hear the word of Jesus and cooperate, sickness can hear the Word of God in your life, and cooperate. And anything that is not giving glory to God in your life can hear the Word of God and cooperate because in this place, the Bible says, Jesus communicated the Word of Faith unto a fig tree. Now look at verse 20 and see what happened. The Bible says: Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. Jesus spoke to that fig tree the day before, that no one eat fruit from you again, and by morning, the following day, the fig tree had dried up.

Verse 21: And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.” 22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. There was no so much lecture. Jesus said to them, have faith in God. Look at what he says. He says, For assuredly I say to you, whoever says…” when you say something, what are you doing? You are communicating. You see, you must understand something, that if the Word of God is going to work for you, your faith must leave the realm of believing alone. Your faith must translate from the realm of believing into the realm of saying, as a believer, you must be saying something. There is a reality for you but you must speak your way into your reality.

Jesus said to them, have faith in God for assuredly I say to you, whoever, anyone whatsoever, is not limited to the disciples alone, is not limited to men or women alone. Whoever say to this mountain, Be removed, and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, the word of God is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart. Whosoever that says to this mountain and does not doubt in his heart. What will make you not to doubt is that when you put the word of God in your mouth, and it goes into your heart, it builds a spiritual virtue. It builds a spiritual fortification, even though the whole world may be collapsing, your faith hanged upon what has been mixed in your spirit. Now look at it, and does not doubt in his heart but believes that those things he says will be done. He will have whatever he says.

Jesus said, whosoever who says something will have whatever he says. This thing I'm writing to you, I have seen it work practically. So, I'm not writing to you something that I have not experienced. I am writing to you what I have practically experienced. Let me give you an example. You know, last year we had a fire incident in our house. And after we cleaned the house, myself and my wife were confessing the Word of God that the fridge had gone and we receive another one, I think it was even a freezer that we were confessing that we received. That was about 8am in the morning. And right about 10:30am, the President called me and said go to so and so place in town and price a fridge. I was shocked like, what is going on. He said, yes, there is a particular place, go there, go there, go there, go there, go there. And price this and this fridge. And then I went there, I priced the fridge. And then the fridge came the same day, less than 12 hours that the fire happened. The fridge came. And it has a freezer, but it was freezer we were trusting God for.

And so, several months, not to several months, about two, three months after provisional came. And then we're able to just scoop money together. And we said, now this money can buy freezer. And then we took the money and we went to buy freezer. Now, that thing started from what we spoke, we did not only get freezer, we also got fridge. These things work. It says: whosoever that says what we have whatever he says. He didn't say they should pray. Now this was a principle that Jesus was telling them. Prayer is good. There is the place of prayer because you must understand that even when you communicate with God, when you confess the Word of God, it is still prayer. Is that not what David said? David said: “Let the word of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight Oh God.” Even when you confess the Word of God, it is still prayer.

He didn't tell them to kneel and pray for that experience, He is simply showing them to have faith in God. Anything you are trusting God for, have faith in God. Now, let me give you another example. When I told you I've experienced this thing I want to give you another example. You see, when I entered university, I used to tell my wife a couple of times that I don't see myself as one spectacular brilliant guy. But one thing I know to do is I know how to read for exams and pass. But do you know what I did when I entered university, I knew university could be tough because while I was in secondary school, I was always afraid of going to university. One of my greatest fears as a secondary school student, I think I've shared this before, was how to ever write jamb and pass.

Because in those days while we were growing up, we saw in our neighborhoods, big and elderly brothers, the people who were supposed to have been in the university and they were not going to university and when you ask them what the problem was, they will say it was jamb they failed. So, there was fear in my heart concerning writing jamb and pass because if these brothers could not write jamb and pass, how would I be able to write jamb and pass? So, I used to nurture that fear of going to the university right from my Junior secondary school days when I knew the time was approaching. So, in my senior secondary school year one, I gave my life to Christ. The reason why I gave my life to Christ was because I wanted to go to university and I don't want to fail.

So, I was trusting God from my SS1 praying in the name of Jesus I will not fail WAEC. So, lo and behold, I wrote WAEC and I passed. Now I am confronted with jamb. So, I wrote the first, second and third jamb and it was the fourth jamb that I passed. So, I said wow, thank God, we've scaled to this hurdle. Now we have entered into the university. Now because I knew who I was and how spectacularly not brilliant I was, I from my 100 level days, I entered into a serious prayer with God. I do tell people there is no prayer ground on Obafemi Awolowo University that I did not pray. And I can say it that from Fajuyi, to Awo, to Sport complex, to wailing wall, and all manner of places that people pray on OAU campus. I prayed there.

Do you know my prayer points? My prayer points in those days were God till I would graduate from this university. I will not fail a single course. That was my prayer. I was praying to God. I will be mentioning all our courses, all the courses we are auditing, I will be mentioning them and I will say God, I will not fail. God, I scaled through this course, in the name of Jesus, failure is not my portion, and all of those. Now let me shock you that in my five years in the university, I never failed a single course. And I knew it was not because I was smart or brilliant. I knew it was as a result of those confessions, of those prayers that I prayed on all those praying grounds. When it was very close to me failing, I will scale through. Now there was a particular exam that I wrote that I knew this exam, it was supposed to be maybe twenty something marks. In fact, while we were on break, twice, I dreamt that I failed the course. So, as we were going back to school, I just made up my mind that this is my first F on this university campus, I dreamt that failed because I knew in the exam, I did not write anything.

Now lo and behold, when the result came out, I did not fail. I knew there was nothing that I did that made me scale through. In my five years in Obafemi Awolowo University, I never failed a single course. And I can boldly say to you that they were the result of those confessions that I was making. Jesus didn't tell them to kneel down and pray. He says, have faith in God and if anyone say. Now what does it mean to say? It simply means say to this mountain, you this mountain, I don't want to see you again and you will be tenacious about it. There was a story of a young boy that I don't know if that story was true, that he was living at the backside of a very mountainous rock, and his school was at the other side of the rock. And every time when this boy wants to go to school, the hurdle of having to climb the mountain to the other side usually wears him down. And the boy usually says, I wish there is a road in-between this rock or mountain that can just make us cross to the other side. And lo and behold, you know, the government just decided that they want to make a tunnel, a railway tunnel through the rock. And that was how a railway track was dug in-between the rock. And that was how that boy’s prayer came to be.

Whosoever say to this mountain. Now, how the mountain will move, Jesus does not bother to show them, whether it will sink, whether quarry people will come and shatter it, and then they will convert the rocks into building materials. All you need to do is to say. Now, when Jesus spoke to that fig tree, it was not immediately that it withered, it was when they were coming the following day. But the fig tree already heard the communication of faith, somebody had spoken to eat. Many times, when you speak to situations and circumstances in your life, you may not see the results immediately but the word has sown. And that is why you must be tenacious. Your staying power must be in the same word. What do you want to see? He says whosoever we have whatever. Whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you will receive them and you will have them.

Let me show us the third thing. If the word of God must work for you, from that Scripture we read, it says you must have faith in God. If the word of God must work for you, you must have faith in God. Now it is faith in God that brings about the manifestation of God's Word in your life. It is your faith in God that brings about the manifestation of the Word of God in your life, your faith in God. Now there is something I want to show us. Faith is usually hinged on three things. Number one is IDENTITY. Number two is KNOWLEDGE. And number three is BELIEF. If your faith is going to ever work, it must be based on these three things I've mentioned, identity, knowledge and belief. Now, let me explain to us briefly.

Identity talks about the identity of the person you have faith in. If your faith will work, you must know the person that you have believed. Who is God? What is God capable of doing? These talks about his identity. What is God worth? Is He a consistent person or someone who is always changing? All these things must be settled in the place of identity, this person that I'm putting my faith in, who exactly is He? Is he a consistent person? Is He subject to changing? How much is He even worth? Look at the Scripture. Hebrews 11:6, it shows us the example. It says: “But without faith, it is impossible to please Him for who comes to God must believe that He is. So, you must believe that God is who He says He is. Your faith must be hinged on that identity. You must know that God can give you whatever He said he will give you. Do we understand?

The second one is knowledge. You must know the person. This person that says he's going to bless me with a child; how much do I know him? You must know God, if your faith is going to work with God, you must know Him. Second Peter chapter 1 from verses 2-4. Look at what Peter said. He says Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus, our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of him…” How much of God do you know? How much of God are you aware of? Did we see that? It says: “who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through this, you may be partakers of the divine nature having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

So, your faith must be hinged on identity, it must be hinged on knowledge, and the last one, it must be based on belief. Do you believe God? Do you believe God can give you what you want? These are the three things that make your faith to be potent. Do we understand? So, don't just say well, I have faith in God, I have faith in God know, how much of God do you know? How much of God are you are aware of? How much of God can you say you know, and do you believe in this God?

So, the last one for the Word of God to work for us, it must be mixed with faith in your heart. Don't just receive the Word of God. Let the word of God that you receive, let it be mixed with faith in your heart. You see, faith is one thing, the word of God is one thing, the two of them must mix. When the Word of God comes to you, let it be mixed with faith. Let your faith be able to receive it and digest it. And I pray that the Lord is going to help us in Jesus’ name. So, this is how we make the Word of God to work. These things are practical, they are practicable. They are things that you can put to work. Don’t just receive the Word of God and then begin to feel lackadaisical or lazy about the word. No! You have to stay put with the word.

If the word is going to produce results, you must stay put with that word until you see the results that you desire.

Word of Confession: (Optional)

Lord Jesus, I confess to you that I have sinned against the LORD God - in the rebellion of my heart, I have disappointed your expectations on my life. I have fallen from Your grace and followed wrong influences around me. Today, I retrace my steps back to you - and I ask that in your mercy you accept me as your son and give to me (again) the promise of the Father - the Holy Spirit. Lord Jesus, please, come and make my heart your home, and from there rule in the affairs of all men. In Jesus Name I have prayed.
