Last week, we began by looking at The Power and Purpose of Revelation Knowledge and one of the things we said was that revelation knowledge is the knowledge of God revealed to us by God through His Holy Spirit. We also said that it is this kind of knowledge (talking about revelation knowledge) that helps us to know God more intimately for ourself and not that somebody is trying to interpret God to us. Now, I am not trying to downplay the place of learning about God from other sources or people, it is also important. But what I am saying is that there is a New Covenant provision that has made it possible for you and I to know God intimately by revelation. If you read Hebrews 8:10-11(AMP), the Bible says:
“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
After those days, says the Lord:
I will imprint My laws upon their minds [even upon their innermost thoughts and understanding],
And engrave them upon their hearts [effecting their regeneration].
And I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.
“And it will not be [necessary] for each one to teach his fellow citizen,
Or each one his brother, saying, ‘Know [by experience, have knowledge of] the Lord,’
For all will know [Me by experience and have knowledge of] Me,
From the least to the greatest of them.
So, revelational knowledge talks about that personal and experiential knowledge of God that you have. We also examined The Power of Revelation Knowledge and how through revelation knowledge, our lives are transformed and we are set on the path of destiny pursuit and purpose fulfilment. We examined the lives of Moses and Paul, how that it was until God revealed Himself to them that they began the journey of walking in the path of God’s destiny for their lives. So, we are going to continue from there today even as we conclude on this teaching today.
The Power of Revelation Knowledge
#2. Revelation knowledge brings us to the place where we know God for who He is truly and not what He does alone. If you read Psalm 103:6-7, David said: “The LORD executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.” We must understand that knowing God is one thing, and knowing the things He does is another thing. A man may know the acts of God but may not know the God of the acts. Many people know the acts of God, but they don’t know the ways of God.
The difference between the children of Israel and Moses is that the children of Israel saw the acts of God but Moses knew the God behind the acts. The children of Israel saw the acts of God, they saw the red sea parted right before them, they saw manna fall from heaven, they saw quails, they saw all manner of acts of God, but they don’t know His ways, many of them didn’t make it to the promise land.
#3. By revelation knowledge, we know the things that have been freely given to us by God. What we call our inheritance in God comes to us by revelation and nothing more. Paul, speaking by the Spirit of God in 1 Corinthians 2:9-16 shows us this. It says:
“But as it is written: “eye has not seen, nor ear heard, not have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him (meaning that what God has prepared for you as a result for His love for you, even your own heart has not yet fathomed or understand it. It is huge and massive in such a way that your natural human understanding may not be able to comprehend it) 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit (meaning that we didn’t go to school to learn them, it simply comes by revelation through the Spirit of God). For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”
#4. Through Revelation Knowledge, our lives are preserved [Genesis 32:22-30]
“And he arose that night and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of Jabbok. 23 He took them, sent them over the brook, and sent over what he had. 24 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. 25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. 26 And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!” 27 So He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.” 28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” 29 Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there. 30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
What will preserve our lives is not sensual knowledge, what preserves us and even our generations that are yet to be born is the revelation of God that we have. Abraham knew God by revelation and this he was able to passed down to his descendants after him. Look at what the Lord said concerning him in Genesis 18:17-19. The Bible says:
“And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, 18 since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”
If there is anything you must yearn for, it is the revelation of God to you.
The Purpose of Revelation Knowledge
Why does God reveal Himself to us? God reveal Himself to us so that we can get to know His character and His plans for our lives and existence. The character of God points us to who God really is and His plans for us shows us his blueprint for our lives. God wants us to have the knowledge of the two and so, He reveals Himself to us. For example, if you are going to go on a life journey with someone, let say, the journey of marriage; there are certain things you don’t want to assume about the person. You actually want to know the person in and out before you are committed to that life’s journey. The same thing with God. Our journey with God is till eternity and so, God does not want us to assume things or just anything about Him, and that is why He is always committed to revealing Himself to us on a daily basis.
If you read Jeremiah 29:11-13, the Bible says: “For I know the thoughts [talking about His blueprint for your life] that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. But see what verse 12 and 13 says further: 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
How Does God Reveal Himself?
There are many ways through which God can reveal Himself to us but I want to show us just two of these ways that form the basis and background for every other way and means that we may know or come across. God reveals Himself to us through:
#1. Through Creations [Romans 1:18-20]
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse…”
God’s numerous creations points us to one thing: His attributes and character. Everything we see today are not some products of evolution as scientists would want us to believe. That is why we are not supposed to worship the created things, we are meant to worship the God who created all things and upholds them by the word of His power. So, God reveal Himself to us through His creations.
#2. Through Jesus Christ, His Son
The greatest revelation of God to mankind is in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is God revealed to us in the flesh. John 1:14 says: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” Jesus is the love of God revealed to us. John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus is the wisdom and the power of God. There
How to Receive Revelation Knowledge
There is no hard and fast rule about revelation knowledge. Revelation knowledge is received through:
#1. Prayers. Paul prayed for the Ephesians church in Ephesians 1:17 like this: “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.” So, this means that revelation knowledge can be gotten through prayer.
#2. The Holy Spirit [John 15:26]
The Holy Spirit testifies of the Father and He reveals Him to us. “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.”
#3. Studying God’s word
The word of God is God’s revelation of Himself to us. Although that was written by men, it is still as potent as the time that God gave them those words to pen down. So, the more we study and meditate on it, the more He reveals Himself to us. The word of God cannot be exhausted. Each time you come, especially with an open heart, fresh revelation of God is dropped into your heart and that experience remains with you for the rest of your l
