Let us to start our observation from the book of Genesis 3 and we will be reading just a verse in the chapter. Genesis 3:15. The Bible says: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” This was the first place in the entire Bible where it was first mentioned that a Messiah shall be born. It was God Himself that revealed it to Satan.
THE STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE OF MAN IN THE AGENDA OF GOD
Of all that God created, the creation of man actually tops all that He created. Man occupies a strategic position in the fulfillment of the agenda of God. As a matter of fact, every other thing that God created, was created for the benefit of the man, and not the other way around. Man was not created for things, but things were created for the man. If you read 1 Timothy 6:17, Paul admonished Timothy to: “Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, not to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives richly all things to enjoy.” So, every other thing that we can see in creation are there for the enjoyment of man.
God’s plan from the beginning was to extend His kingdom to the earth and for that to happen, the creation of man is needed. Jesus was teaching His disciples how to pray in Matthew 6:9-10. It says: “In this manner, therefore, pray: our father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” For the purpose of the kingdom of God being established, and the will of that kingdom, was what gave birth to the creation of man. But the devil, obviously, does not want the will of God to come on the earth, caused the man that God had created to execute this assignment, err against God. The devil knew there was no way he could stop God from making this a reality, but he attempted at slowing it down by making man to sin against God. I want us to go back to Genesis 3 and read from verse 1-15. The Bible says:
“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” 11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” 12 Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” 13 And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 14 So the Lord God said to the serpent:
“Because you have done this,
You are cursed more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly you shall go,
And you shall eat dust
All the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”
THE TWO KINDS OF SEED
There are two kinds of seed that are mentioned in this passage and I don’t want us to lose track of them. The first seed is the seed of the serpent and the second seed is the Seed of the woman. The seed of the serpent talks about the fallen mankind, those who have been injected with the life and nature of sin from the serpent to become his children or offspring. In Matthew 3:7, John the Baptist called these category of people “brood of vipers.” It says: “But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?” In Matthew 23:33, Jesus called them again by the same name. It says: “Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?” In John 8:44, Jesus called their father, “devil” and in 1John 3:10, John the beloved called them the “children of the devil.” This was the origin of the devil becoming a father.
The second seed mentioned in that passage is the Seed of the Woman. The seed of the woman in context here, talks about Christ Jesus, and every other seed that would come into the fold through Him. In Galatians 4:4-7, the Bible says: “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” Christ is the seed through which every other seed shall be born again into the family of God. That is why David wrote in Psalms 22:30-31, it says: “A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. 31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.”
So, the first dimension of the Seed called Christ that we must understand is that He was born by a woman, in the flesh. Now, the fact that He was born by a woman is not the point, because we all know that by now. The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, and saluted her and told her she was going to born a child. The implication of the fact that He was born by a woman is the focus here, and that focus would take us back to Genesis 3:15 that we read earlier. It says: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”
THE IMPLICATION OF CHRIST BORN OF A WOMAN!
#1. The first implication of Christ coming through a woman is to bruise the head of Satan for his sin of rebellion against God. It was a prophesy that was foretold by God in the same Genesis 3:15 that we read earlier. How was this supposed to happen? This Christ Jesus accomplished through the cross. In Hebrews 2:14-15, the Bible says: “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” There was no way Christ would have been able to rescue us from the power of death if Himself did not partake in that death. What Christ did was a substitutionary work that exonerate the seed of the woman completely from the pangs of the devil. That is why in 1 Corinthians 2:8, Paul said: “which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”
#2. The second implication of Christ coming through a woman is that Satan must bruise His heel. This was also documented in Genesis 3:15 that we read earlier. How did Satan bruise His heel? It was manifested in the series of punishment and agony that Christ went through on behalf of mankind for our sins and transgressions. Now, that Satan would bruise His heel was not a weakness on His part, No! It is simply what has been ordained by God that would take place so that man’s salvation can be complete and total.
In Isaiah 53:1-12, the Bible says:
Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with [f]grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4 Surely, He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment,
And who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
9 And they made His grave with the wicked—
But with the rich at His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him;
He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied.
By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many,
For He shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
And He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
Because He poured out His soul unto death,
And He was numbered with the transgressors,
And He bore the sin of many,
And made intercession for the transgressors.
CHRIST, THE SEED OF ABRAHAM
The second dimension of the Seed called Christ is that He is the Seed of Abraham. Christ as the Seed of Abraham is the channel through which we receive the blessing of Abraham. Now, we need to understand something here. The blessing of Abraham in the new covenant is beyond landed properties, houses and cars. The blessing of Abraham is beyond wealth and riches (even though they include it). Because if the blessing of Abraham was limited to all these things that we have mentioned, the Bible would not say in Hebrews 11:10 that Abraham was looking for a city whose builder and maker is God. What then is the blessing of Abraham?
The blessing of Abraham that we read and talk about in Genesis, is the promise of the Holy Spirit to us in the New Covenant. Meaning that the much “Abraham Blessings are Mine” that we sing about is embedded in us receiving the Holy Spirit. Let us see Galatians 3:10-16 & 29. The Bible says:
“For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” 11 But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.” 12 Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.” 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 15 Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. 16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
So, for anyone to be able to walk in the blessing of Abraham, number one, that person must come into Christ; number two, that person must receive the Holy Spirit by faith.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE BIRTH OF CHRIST
Ephesians 1:8-11 showed us three powerful significances of the birth of Christ. The Bible says:
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.”
Three things are evidenced in those verses that we just read and they are:
- REDEMPTION
- FORGIVENESS OF SINS
- WE OBTAIN OUR INHERITANCE
Without Christ’s birth, these three things wouldn’t have been possible and therefore, His coming ushered us into them. I pray the Lord will help us to stay focused and well-r0undd in Him.
