How to Fulfill Your Leadership Assignment as a Leader

HOW TO FULFILL YOUR LEADERSHIP ASSIGNMENT AS A LEADER
Discover the 4Cs Every Leader Must Possess

Sometimes, the assignment of leadership looks so enormous that it often brings about fear in the heart of the leader. Many leaders today know that they have one assignment or the other they must accomplish within a set timeframe. However, each time they look at the assignment, viz-a-viz what they have done so far and where they are, they simply run into panic mode. If the scenario that I just described talks about your leadership, I want to quickly show you how you can go about fulfilling that assignment that is hanging on your shoulders.

Now, if you are going to fulfill your leadership assignment, there are 4Cs that you must not joke with. The 4Cs is an acronym for: COMPETENCE, CONSISTENCY, CHARACTER, and COLLABORATION.

COMPETENCE

Everything that you require in fulfilling your leadership assignments starts here. There is a level of competence that is required to fulfilling a specific leadership assignment. If you don’t already possess that competence, it may be somewhat difficult to fulfill the leadership assignment. The challenge with many unfulfilled leadership assignments today is because many people put leadership first before competence. But in actual sense, the reverse should be the case – competence first, before leadership. In Exodus 31:1-5, the Bible says:

Now the Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel, son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3 I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom and skill, in understanding and intelligence, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship [these categorically talks about competence], 4 to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, 5 and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, to work in all kinds of craftsmanship.

So, the starting point to fulfilling any leadership assignment is first developing the competence that such assignment requires.

CONSISTENCY

As beautiful as competence is, consistency is also key if a leader would fulfill his/her leadership assignment. Consistency is the ladder we climb towards perfection and excellence. Fulfilling a leadership assignment requires that one is consistent at it. It does not matter whether the terrain looks difficult or not. But with consistency, one would arrive at the zenith of whatever one has set to accomplish in leadership. Consistent leaders model leadership for their team, they work hard, they persevere, and they are never given to discouragement and excuses.

CHARACTER

Character is an essential element of leadership. When a leader takes away character out of the equation of all that he or she does, then leadership would crumble like a pack of cards. If you have great visions and you don’t have the requisite character to birthing that vision, the vision would at best remain in your head and in the book where you have penned it down. Fulfilling your leadership assignment requires grit, it requires tenacity, and it requires character that is requisite for fulfilling the assignment.

For example, Jesus was the Son of God and God Himself. But for Him to be able to fulfill His assignment, He had to assume the character that His assignment requires. The Bible says in Philippians 2:7-8: “He made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Everyone of us leaders must assume the character that the fulfillment of our leadership assignment requires, otherwise, we will not be able to fulfill it.

COLLABORATION

Collaboration is one of the hallmarks of effective leadership. Leaders who have learnt the art of collaboration often get many things done. The idea that “I can do everything by myself” is at best a figment of your imagination as a leader. The truth of the matter is, you can get many things done well and effectively when you collaborate as a leader. So, if you want to get your leadership assignments done, learn to collaborate at every level and at every phase. Look for competent hands who can help you carry together with you, the burden of your leadership assignment so that you don’t collapse while trying to do it all alone.

Word of Confession: (Optional)

Lord Jesus, I confess to you that I have sinned against the LORD God... In Jesus Name I have prayed.
If your vision is good, there is a guarantee to your safety and arrival. Because avoiding pitfalls in leadership is to the degree of the clarity of your vision. You lead effectively, when you see correctly.
