Proverbs 8:11. “For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.”
In order to find Wisdom, we must first desire it and also to know why we need it. Whatever man may desire on earth, it can never be compared to wisdom, the reason is because it is far better or far more precious than rubies. I went in search of the meaning of rubies and I discovered it is a precious stone consisting of corundum in color varieties varying from deep crimson or purple to pale rose. So, no matter how valuable precious stones or gold may be, its worth can never be compared to wisdom. Same reason why the Bible says wisdom is the principal thing. Principal here talks about an order of importance. So, in order of importance man must see wisdom as the most important of all his getting. It says in all thy getting, get understanding. What is the Wisdom behind these instructions? If you can chase wisdom and find it then it is worth more than anything the world has to offer. The path of wisdom is the right path to choose and it can never be taken away from you.
This article is birthed out of my prayer and search for wisdom. I discovered if life is to be lived with minimal mistakes, not being characterized with foolishness and if ministry or marriage will be done according to Gods plan, His purposes and counsel, then it is expedient that I search for this uncommon gift of God that is available in Christ Jesus. The article is a continuation of part two of the series I wrote on understanding the foundational secret of influence in leadership. You could read it as well. So, my focus in this article is to help us find wisdom knowing that this was the gift of God that Daniel influenced his generation for God. If we will influence our own generation, then this gift of God is indispensable. So, how did Daniel find wisdom? And how can we also find wisdom so that we can become a people of wisdom not missing out in all of what is available in God for our generation. While I was meditating on this, the Holy Spirit showed me a few things that I would like to share with you in this article.
Another word for wisdom is light and these two can be used interchangeably. What does wisdom actually mean? It is simply the ability to make a decision based on the combination of knowledge, experience, and intuitive understanding. Wisdom according to an online dictionary, is the quality of being wise; the power of judging rightly and following the soundest course of action, based on knowledge, experience and understanding. I also found this definition very interesting and it clearly explains the thoughts I’ m being inspired to share. It says; wisdom is the ability to apply relevant knowledge in an insightful way, especially to different situations from that in which the knowledge was gained. This means that wisdom is required to solve problems. And if indeed it solves problems, it then becomes a necessary tool we must equip ourselves with in ministry and in the journey of life.
Daniel 2 verse 22c says; “He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him.” The Bible says the secret things belong to God. Meaning that whatever is kept secret by God remains a secret until it is chosen to be revealed by God. God conceals and He also reveals. Men reveal when God has purposed men to reveal what has been hidden or concealed. The Scripture says it is the glory of God to conceal a matter and the glory of kings to search out that matter. The kings here are the sons of light and they are sons of light because their Father is the Father of light. And only the sons of light has been given the ability to reveal whatever has been concealed.
I am sure you would be wondering why we began with this Scripture, if we are talking about how to find wisdom, it then means that the path is not yet known. So, we are to trust God to reveal to us the path that will lead us to finding this rare gift of God. So, if wisdom talks about insight as to how to solve problems, then it is important to begin from the one who reveals or gives insight. What differentiate men and kings on the earth is their ability to receive insight and no man can receive insight or gain wisdom or able to solve a problem if God has not given that man the capacity to. We saw that in the previous article. Daniel made this statement because God just gave him a solution and he understood God experientially that He is the revealer of secrets. So, amongst many things that was given to Daniel, one major distinguishing gift Daniel had was the gift of wisdom and this gift is far above rubies or anything precious that can be compared to it.
So, in order to find wisdom, we must first know God, Daniel acknowledged that He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him. I saw something strange in proverbs 8 verse 1 to 4. The Bible says; “Does not wisdom cry out, And understanding lift up her voice?2 She takes her stand on the top of the [a]high hill, Beside the way, where the paths meet.3 She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, At the entrance of the doors:4 “To you, O men, I call, And my voice is to the sons of men.” I called it strange because it says wisdom cries out and understanding lift up her voice yet no one can hear his voice, it says she takes her stand on the top of the hill at least there she could be seen but no one sees her. Is wisdom invisible? Is she that difficult to find? Could she be seen, felt or touched? Proverbs 20 verse 12 says; “The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord has made them both.” Then I remembered the Scripture that says the Lord gave Solomon a wise and discerning heart. So, to find wisdom is to first receive a discerning heart. The ability to distinguish between evil and good.
This means that the path of wisdom actually begins from the heart. The heart that can perceive, the eyes that see and the ears that ear. And they are all spiritual. The Scripture says in Isaiah 50 verse 4. “He awakens Me morning by morning; He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple [as One who is taught].” This is one of the secrets to becoming wise. To hear and to follow as one who is being taught. The question is being taught by who? To be taught by the Spirit of God. So, I came to understand that if I must become wise then my spiritual senses must become active to receive the nudging of the Spirit and to hear his voice. David said in Psalm 63:6. “When I remember You on my bed, I meditate and thoughtfully focus on You in the night watches.” Your heart must be fixed on the law of the lord, mediating on it day and night. This is how the wise become wiser, this is how to find wisdom.
So, having become spiritually sensitive, mediating on his law and retaining it in the heart, the next thing is to fear the Lord. Proverbs 1 verse 7 says; “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” So, to find wisdom is to fear God, this is strange but true. To find wisdom is to walk in the path of the fear of the Lord. Jeremiah 6:16 says; Thus, saith the Lord, stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths. The old path is the path of wisdom. And what makes you find the path of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. Jeremiah 32verse 40 says; And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me. So, if the Lord wants to put His wisdom in your heart, He puts His fear in your heart. So, the more you fear Him the wiser you become. Those who are foolish are those who have no regard for God. The Bible says only a fool will say there is no God.
Going back to the book of Daniel our subject of consideration. Daniel 2:10-11, it says; “The fortunetellers said, “Nobody anywhere can do what you ask. And no king, great or small, has ever demanded anything like this from any magician, enchanter, or fortuneteller. What you’re asking is impossible unless some god or goddess should reveal it—and they don’t hang around with people like us.” I deliberately used this translation because of the choice of words used in it. See the reply they gave to the problem of the king. The fortunetellers, magicians and enchanters said nobody can do or provide solution to what the king has asked or demanded it is impossible with us or what we conjure. The solution of the problem of the king can only be revealed by a god or goddess who don’t hang around with people like us. The New King James Version puts it this way; “It is a [f]difficult thing that the king requests, and there is no other who can tell it to the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.” The point that came so strong to me from this verse is the separation of realms. Before comparing their response to the response Daniel gave I would like to quickly point something out very quickly.
They said a god whose dwelling is not in the flesh. So, it means if one is not in the flesh, he is in the spirit. If this is so, what medium does the magicians consult then? Is their own dwelling in the flesh? I thought they also consult spirits? This means that the one true spiritual realm is the realm of light. Any spirit walking in darkness is not yet in the spirit realm but in the fleshy realm. You may not want to agree with me on this, but let us move further, I believe very strongly that clarity will come. Wisdom and light in the Spirit is not produced in the realm where darkness and unclean spirit dwell, it is produced where the father of light dwells. So where is your dwelling? Is it in the secret place of the most-high or in the realm where flesh is?
Going back to the comparison; Daniel replied in a different manner to the same situation because he knows where the God of light could be found. In chapter 2 of verse 27 and 28, Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, “The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers cannot declare to the king. 28 But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days.” See what he said; there is a God in heaven.” I want us to note that word. The first Scripture we read the astrologers and magicians acknowledged that the God who could reveal this does not hang around in the flesh. This means that if your dwelling is not in the Spirit of God it is impossible to find light and wisdom. This is the reason why Apostle Paul will always admonish believers to walk in the Spirit. This is what gives an edge over the dwellers of the earth realm.
So, finding light or wisdom is not possible outside the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit is not given or received outside believing by faith or the acknowledgement of Christ Jesus. Proverbs chapter 1 verse 23 says; turn at my rebuke, meaning if you can incline your ear to my words, It says; surely I will pour out my spirit on you. This is wisdom speaking. Meaning that wisdom is a spirit and He does not come to hearts that is not ready or prepared for Him either by washing of the water or by thirst or hunger. Isaiah 11 verse 2 makes it clearer speaking about Jesus saying the Spirit of wisdom and understanding shall rest upon Him. If Jesus needed wisdom to function, we also need wisdom. Bible says He grew in wisdom.
The Bible in Genesis chapter 1 verse 1 to 2 says; “First this: God created the Heavens and Earth—all you see, all you don’t see. Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness. God’s Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss.” MSG. This Scripture says Gods Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss. Another translation puts it this way, It says; the Spirit of the Lord was hovering over the surface of the deep. What is the meaning of that hovering? It means to position oneself near or around or to be on-top covering a particular thing. It talks about a deliberate and intentional movement. 1 Corinthians 2 verse 10 makes it clearer, it says; it searches the deep things of God. When you become one with the Holy Spirit you begin to know the things that have been freely given to you by God including wisdom which are hidden in the deep of God. Verse 13 of that Scripture says these things we also speak not in words which man’s wisdom teaches, it says but which the Holy Spirit teaches.
Jesus speaking about the Holy Spirit in John 16 verse 15, He said; all things that the Father has are mine which include riches, wisdom, honor, power, glory, blessings and strength. He said therefore I said that He will take of mine and declare it to you. So, the secret things that were revealed to Daniel and later being declared to the king was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit the one who searches the deep things of God.
Romans 11:33 says; “O, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and untraceable His ways!” Men in the flesh won’t be able to search it out except by the Spirit. So, knowing the Holy Spirit gives access to the light and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 3 verse 16 to 18 says; Nevertheless, when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. The darkness is taken away, and light appears, wisdom appears. It says 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face. Wisdom is beholding with unveiled face, seeing things as God sees them and tapping into the frequencies of God. Having received the Spirit of wisdom how can a man partner with the Holy Spirit?
Number One: By become selfless in the place of prayer. Pray selfless Prayer, pray out of the place of love for people; become an intercessor, take up the burdens of others in the place of prayer.
Number Two: Be a dweller of the secret place.
Number Three: By Vision. I.e., make God your focus. Seeing through His eyes and hearing his voice.
Number Four: By keeping company with the Holy Spirit, to be led by Him and by keeping company with the wise.
