It is one thing to know that you have a great future, it is another thing to be sure or fully persuaded that it will come to pass. The difference between the former and the latter is that while the former is in the realm of knowing, the latter is a step ahead. It means that you don’t just know, you are sure and you are willing to give whatever it takes to make it a reality. This is what separates the great from the small.
In as much as there is a future that lies ahead for everyone, taking on the responsibility to partner with God to make it a reality begins with the choice of self -leadership. It is possible you may be hearing this concept for the first time or maybe not; but it is a word inspired to communicate a thought line that would help believers and leaders who are coming up and aspiring to see that all that God has spoken concerning them actually comes into fulfillment.
So, what is Self-leadership? It simply means the ability of a man, a believer to lead his or her self. Or the ability of a man or woman to control his or herself. So, if securing a great future is a matter not to be taken for granted or for levity, then it begins by that ability of a leader to bring self under control. So, we are not left with the option of whether we should be controlled by self or not, as far as the matter of destiny is concerned, we are only left with the option of controlling it if our lives will ever make impact on the earth.
Having said that, the self cannot be controlled unless the Spirit of the Lord is given permission to put self under control. But even as powerful and mighty the Holy Spirit is, if a leader is not willing to grant permission to the Holy Spirit, such a man or leader will be controlled by something else. Bibe says they war against each other. [Gal 5:17]
So, if self- leadership so important in determining the outcome of our lives, how then can self-leadership be deployed knowing fully well that this is the secret to securing a great future?
#. The first secret to self-leadership is to be mindful of the things of the Spirit.
Another word for this is to be purposeful. Purposeful living is living with the consciousness that you require the Holy Spirit to complete the task or finish the work God has given you to do on a daily basis. See what Jesus said to Peter in Matthew 16 verse 23, Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” So, self-leadership is the leader seeing things from Gods point of view and not from human stand point. It is the ability of the leader to flee every appearance of evil. And for you to do that, you must walk in the Spirit at all times in other not to be led by self or flesh by doing that you are leading self or controlling self.
#. The second secret to self-leadership is never be ignorant of God’s word.
Another word to be used to replace God’s word is God’s thoughts. They are synonymous. God’s thoughts and words are inseparable. You know His thoughts via His word. And by His words His thoughts are communicated to you. So, Stay on God’s thought and not on the thoughts that is suggested to you by flesh. And the balance factor between your thoughts and the thoughts of God is the Holy Spirit. God in Jeremiah 29:11 said; “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” If you are ignorant of Gods thought of peace, and an expected end, you will be at peace.
Where we lose control of self-leadership is when the peace of the Lord is no longer guarding our heart and at that point it is the self that leads us. The Bible says guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life. So, securing a great future is to be guided by the word of God.
#. The third secret to self-leadership is never underestimate the power of growth and process.
A man without process is a disaster waiting to happen. A man who controls self is a man who understands the power of daily renewal of the mind. By so doing, it gives you an idea of what you are becoming or who you should become. You tell yourself there is room for more.
Process is a system God has put in place to grow great men, and what it makes out of you is to make you become a man who has attained mastery, exercising himself unto godliness and not to please the lust of the flesh. If you will secure a great destiny, don’t disregard process, you never can fully comprehend what you will fully turn out to be in Gods hands.
#. The forth secret is to stay focused.
What focus will do for you is to make you resist distractions and filter the things that are irrelevant at every stage of your life. Bible says resist the devil and He will flee from you. Focus brings you to a realm of light, where you are able to differentiate between the things that are expedient and the things at are lawful. The Bible says if the eye be single, the whole body will be full of light. If you can focus on the greatness that God has set ahead of you, you will be surprised at how much impact your leadership will have.
#. The fifth secret is to have the fear of God.
The Bible says the whole duty of man is to fear God. Attaining your desired destiny is never possible out side of the fear of the Lord. Because wisdom and understanding springs from the fear of the Lord. If you don’t fear God, God will not take you seriously. Meaning that if you honor Him, He will honor you, and when you check those who do the things that are not fitting, you could easily trace is it to lack of the fear of the Lord, and unfaithfulness towards God.
So, leadership activities, actions and expressions are determined or measured by how you lead yourself. And it is primarily the state of your heart. If your heart will mind the things of the Spirit, if your mind will retain the knowledge of God, if your mind will be committed to growth and expansion; focused and fears the Lord, then you have become a leader that is indeed ready to fulfil destiny.
