When you understand the laws that govern the spiritual life in you, you will go far with GOD.
Jesus said, “I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world.” "For I have not spoken on My authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. (John 8:26; 12:49.)
The point in Jesus’ rule of speech we must learn from is "The things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world " Meaning I could choose to speak other things according to what I hear or feel, but it is not necessary; I will only speak what I hear of My Father; only what's of the Father's business shall be my concern and shall govern my speech among men.
What you say or what you don't say has the power to keep your life in check and help you to preserve the Glory of GOD among men, so you don't bring the name of the Lord to shame (ridicule) among men and women that you meet daily.
In James chapter 3 verse 2, the Bible says, “For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body."
You have the permission to listen to anything: you could listen to anything because your ear has no cover, but you don't answer to everything; only the flesh behaves in that order.
You could listen to anything, but you only speak to what GOD cares to speak to and answer to what God answers to.
That is the number one spiritual principle that can help you bridle your tongue. If whatever careless word you and I speak shall come into judgement, then you need to exercise care in what you speak and don't speak. (Read Matt. 12:36.)
Most things we hear do not require answers, but our problem is that we want to answer everything. Except we have answered, we don't want to let go, should somebody take us for a fool.
The moment our choice is to answer to everything we hear or see, our lives will automatically begin to leak values, and God could easily be ridiculed by men through our leaking life. when a roof of a house is leaking water in the rainy season, it causes discomfort to those around the house, that is exactly what we are reduced to when we don't bridle our tongues among men and women in the society we live.
We have a duty that Christ, our Lord, has given us to perform among men, and if we must do it, and be commended in all we do to the Glory of GOD, we must allow the principle that governed the speech of Christ to govern our speech too, so we don't give room to the flesh to decide the choice of our words, the manner we talk, what we talk plus what we are talking to and about.
Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:16).
This is the ultimate role of our lives in every work of life we find ourselves in. Revealing the Glory of God through our works and speeches. Do you know that even if our works are okay among men and women and children in societies, but our speech is not in alignment with our works, we could use our speech to destroy our good works, of course, it will even do it faster than a wildfire could do to a dry grassland in a minute?
Guard your lips with every diligence, when it leaks, it causes shame and dishonour to the Holy name that we profess.
