Before we go ahead to look at how God reveals His Son in us, I think it is important for us to first and foremost examine Why God reveals His son in the first place because I perceive many people are interested in the “HOW” of God and not the “WHY” of God. As I was meditating on the topic, the Holy Spirit said to me: don’t just show the people “How” show them the “Why” first so that they can appreciate the “How.” And I also believe that the hallmark of our walk with God and the height of us attaining spiritual maturity is when we understand why God does the things He does. Why does God bless us? Why does God prosper people? Why does God bring people into new dispensations and seasons? Why does God answer prayers? Why does God go through the fire and water with you and not make you by-pass them? Why does God take you through a longer route and not a short-cut?
Mordecai said to Esther: “who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14) God does not do anything haphazardly. Anything that God would do is first of all preceded by Why He would do such thing. So, why did God reveal His Son in the first place?
WHY GOD REVEALS HIS SON IN US!
#1. Christ Was Revealed to Give Us Everlasting Life. John 4:13-14 says: “Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” The first understanding we must have here is that man was made in the image and likeness of God, and so, by virtue of that, the spirit of man is indestructible. It is the spirit of man that enjoys everlasting life and not the body of man. In 2 Corinthians 4:16, Paul said: “Therefore, we do not become discouraged [spiritless, disappointed, or afraid]. Though our outer self is [progressively] wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day by day.”
When the appointed time comes, the body of man would give way and be buried in the earth from where it was made from, but the spirit of man does not die with the body. In Ecclesiastes 12:7, Solomon wrote and said: “Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.” So, the reason why Christ was revealed is so that He can set our spirit back on the path of everlasting life with God.
#2. Christ Was Revealed to Bear the Burden of Sin. Hebrews 9:26 & 28 says: “He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. So, Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.” Jesus came to bear the burden of sin so that humanity wouldn’t have to suffer for the consequences of Adam’s disobedience in the beginning. Paul said “by one man’s offence many became sinners and by one man’s obedience many are made righteous.” Adam’s disobedience separated humanity from God, took the dominion mandate and gave it to Satan. Luke 4:5-6 says: “Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.”
So, Christ was revealed to bear the burden of sin and to also restore us back to our dominion mandate that we have in God from the beginning.
#3. Christ Was Revealed to Demonstrate God’s Love to Humanity. Romans 5:6-8 says: “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” The greatest demonstration of the love of God to us is the death of Christ. I believe God thought within Himself: How best can I show these people that I love and cherish them? And He decided within Himself, I will sacrifice my Son for them. We weren’t perfect, yet, He decided to sacrifice Him still. If we were good, there wouldn’t have been the need for Christ to die. But God did it anyways.
#4. Christ Was Revealed to Usher us into the Dispensation of God’s Favor and Grace. Luke 4:18-19 says:
“The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because He has anointed Me [the Anointed One, the Messiah] to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity], 19 To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound].”
Between the time Jesus announced this and the time He would return for us is the dispensation of God’s favor and His grace. As a matter of fact, there is no better time that sinners can be saved other than this present time. In this dispensation, abundance of grace has been made available. Paul said in Ephesians 3:1-7:
“For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles— 2 if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4 by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power.”
HOW GOD REVEALS HIS SON IN US!
There are many ways through which God reveals His Son in us.
#1. Through Salvation
One sure way to know that the power of God is at work in you is your ability to receive salvation. In Romans 1:16, Paul said: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” If the power of salvation through the gospel can work effectually in you, then that same power can work other things for you. So, salvation is the very first way through God reveals His Son in us.
#2. Through His Spirit [Romans 8:15-16]
The Spirit of God every now and then shows us our placement and position in God. In Romans 8:15-16, Paul said: “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God…” God is your Father simply because His Spirit is in you and through His Spirit, we are partakers of everything that Christ has made available for us. Also in Galatians 4:6, Paul wrote: “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
#3. Through His Faithfulness [2 Timothy 2:11-13]
The last point I want to show us is through his faithfulness, God is ever faithful. And if God has been faithful to you, one way to know is that He has revealed His Son in you. If you read 2 Timothy 2:11-13, it says:
“This is a faithful saying:
For if we died with Him,
We shall also live with Him.
12 If we endure,
We shall also reign with Him.
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.
13 If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
He cannot deny Himself.”
“If we are faithless…” this is the point I like most. If we are faithless, he says, God remains faithful. If we are faithless? If we get to the point where we think God is no longer doing anything for us, it says, no, it is your whole mindset. God is ever faithful. Because if it is not possible for us to be faithless, Paul will not write it. It must have seemed people were faithless, even though they have been in faith before. So, peradventure, you get to that point, where you are thinking, because God is not showing me favor, He is not showing me grace, and therefore I want to go back; no, even at that point where you begin to think that way, it says, God will remain faithful. Did we see that? It says, “He cannot deny himself.”
God will not because of you deny Himself. God has done His part, He has given us His Son, it is left for us to lay hold. He will not lay hold for us; we will lay hold. It says, He cannot deny Himself, God cannot deny Himself. God has taken us into this dispensation, He has said it in His word, we have seen it in His word, we have prayed it, we are believed it. So, from this point forward, if you still get to a point where you begin to doubt God, begin to doubt His efficacy, His power, it says, God cannot deny Himself. In other words, God is saying, “Mio lee para mii fun ee.” Did you see that? I have done all that I need to do. I have given you my word, I have given you, my Spirit. I have given you salvation. My love has been made available for you. What else do you want? If you remain faithless, God will not deny Himself.
So, how do we know the Son of God has been revealed in us? Number one, we are saved. Number two, we have His Spirit. The Bible says the Love of God has been shed abroad in our heart by the Holy Spirit. Number three, through His faithfulness. God will never deny Himself. I pray that the Lord will help us to Manifest His Son more even as we also Manifest!
