If you are interested in the fulfillment of purpose but you find it difficult to spot Gods will or you are ignorant of which direction to take in life as regards to living a fulfilling and a satisfying life, I would like you to read this article with an open mind, and I believe the Holy Spirit will minister to your heart and you will find the light you require for the fulfillment of purpose. I would like to begin my meditation from the book of Genesis chapter 1 verse 26. It says; “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion.”
I will like to begin by pointing out certain words in this verse which are of course very obvious to us, it says; ‘let us make man’. So, the first word is man, then it says; ‘let them have dominion’. So, the second word is dominion. This means that the ultimate purpose for the creation and formation of man is so that he can have dominion on the earth.
Having laid this foundation, Genesis 2 verse 8 said something very profound. It says; “The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.” This verse opens us up to a wisdom that has the capacity to change our lives and challenge our minds. I will like you to read very carefully again. It says “God planted a garden”. And His intention is not to leave the garden empty. But to put the man in the garden. This is where dominion is domiciled. So, until man is found in the garden, even though He is filled with the Spirit, even though he has become a living being, He has not yet been given dominion.
In Genesis chapter 1 verse 26, God said ‘let us make man’. And having made man, chapter 2 verse 7 says He formed man. So, it could mean that you have been created and formed but have you been put in the garden? The question is; where is the garden that man ought to function? So, until man is put in the garden, he will not fulfill the intention of God in verse 26 of chapter 1. This is the reason why this article is inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Having said that; the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to something. He said for Adam His garden was planted in Eden, that is the location of his dominion. For you, where is your garden? This is where a lot of us are stuck. This verse says ‘and He put the man whom He had formed.’ How did God do this? I would like you to note this statement; The responsibility of breathing into the nostrils of man the breath of life was primarily God’s, but He is not responsible for putting man, the man he had formed in the garden.
I am sure this statement will raise a lot of questions in your mind, or it may mean that it doesn’t make any sense. But there is a reason why I said this; so how did I come about this statement? I came to understand that Eden is not just a garden, Eden is not just a location, Eden is actually something called “God’s will.” Another word for it is; “God’s presence.” It is possible to carry God’s presence or filled with the Holy Spirit and not know God’s will. The NLT version says; and God “placed” the man. Placed in this context means; to give a portion of space designated or available. This means Adam was led into this space called the garden. Come to think of it; God is Spirit, how did He put the man in the garden? Did He carry him by the hand or by any other means? He simply led him in the garden.
I say this because, the purpose why God filled the man with His Spirit so that the man will be full of the knowledge of His will. If God wants you to go to the next street, He won’t carry you there, He will simply fill you with His Spirit. Once He can do that, His Spirit will lead without any resistance from you. Colossians 1 verse 9b says; “We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.” So, this means that when that Scripture says; “and there He put the man whom He had formed.” What He did was to direct the man into the garden. How? Via His Spirit. And when the Spirit filled the man, the Spirit filled the man with or gave the man wisdom and understanding. So, Adam recognized the garden and was supposed to fill the garden with what God has filled Him with—the presence. This is dominion.
Where ever a people are empty of Gods will, one of the things that would be lacking is wisdom and understanding. God is not a God that forces Himself on people, He actually made man with a free will, a being of choice; but if the will of God will align with the will of man, there has to be interplay between the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of understanding-This combination is what is called the will of God. So, the will of God is a function of light. Since the will of God is the mind of God, and no one knows the mind of God except the Spirit of God, it then means that only the Spirit of God can enable man to actually discern the mind of God through the instrumentality of wisdom and understanding. These two operations and dimensions of the Spirit is what makes a man not to judge by the hearing of the ears nor by the seeing of the eyes. This is the true light based on this dimension your judgements are true.
My responsibility in this article is to emphasize to you some indicators, or pointers the Holy Spirit had shown you concerning your Eden. And as you read it, you be able to recognize and have a confirmation in your Spirit that this is actually the will of God. So, don’t think the wind will blow you into His will, it is the Spirit of the Lord that will put you into it, via His light. So, every garden God has planted is unique and unique to your creation and formation. But what are the things you will discover about your Eden or about your garden?
- The first indicator of your garden is that it is a place of life and growth.
The quality of your life is a function of what you eat. And what you eat determines your growth. So, trees can grow anywhere, but not all trees produce life. The Bible was deliberate; It says and God planted a garden. What this means is that just as your garden grows, you ought to grow. And your garden will grow because you are growing. Apostle Paul said; “for which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” (2 Cor 4:16-17)
Does your garden have the capacity to give you or work in you a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory? When you read verse 9 of Genesis chapter 2, it says “And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden.” So, look at your garden, is there life? Do you have the opportunity to partake of the tree of life, the word of God? There can’t be growth without life. This is the reason why the soul of most people doesn’t prosper in their own garden, the garden they have chosen for themselves. It is either they are making money but the life of God is not in them, there is no prosperity of soul. In the ideal garden where God has planted for man, you are to partake of the tree of life and grow into the fullness of God. This is how dominion is measured, not in the abundance of the things you possess.
So, when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, and He leads you towards a garden that can give life and glory, not like the glory this world promises, be sure that you are not being led astray.
- Your garden is the place of God’s abundant presence.
Bible says in Genesis 2 verse 10; “Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden.”
When you become one with this truth, you will not be perturbed. Let me bring it home. Your garden is the place where you ought to work or carry out your God given assignment. And no assignment is done outside the help of God. The source of the water or the flow is targeted towards what is planted in Eden, and that you are outside this location does not mean there is scarcity, it simply means you are at the wrong place. So, it is not possible to be satisfied outside God. What do I mean by this? The Bible says in the presence of the Lord, there is fullness of joy, and at his right hand are pleasures for ever more. The blessing is commanded in the presence, rest, peace and joy is commanded in the presence. If you do not find peace, joy and working from the place of rest, then you are not in the presence.
So, when the Holy Spirit is leading you towards God’s will, He will show the joy that has been set ahead, there you will find peace and abundance in all things. This is what makes for true satisfaction in life.
- The third thing you will discover in your garden is instructions and responsibility that suits your ability and uniqueness.
Genesis 2 verse 19 says; “Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to [g]Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.”
Did you notice that when the man was created there was no instruction, what followed was blessings. Same goes to when the man was formed. But by the time the man was put in the garden, instructions came, responsibility came. The instruction says “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat.” (Genesis 2:16) and the responsibility that came to the man was; “tend and keep the garden.”
At this point, God can say man has begun to work in dominion. But it first begins by being led by the Spirit and being filled with the knowledge of His will.
So, your Eden is like a code hidden in Gods will, until you are able to decode Gods will you will find it difficult to find your Eden. But if the Holy Spirit opens your eye to this location in the Spirit then you will be happy you have made the right choice and you will fulfill purpose.
